Did the open mic on Friday, small crowd, maybe 10 comics, Jeffrey Paul hosting, great guy, everybody got extra time, everyone stayed and supported each others sets, great mic to go to if your new and trying to get your feet wet
When I went there, a fat black man was hosting. He was not funny, not motivated. He was not friendly to comics, some of whom were getting up for the first time. He did not say anything like, "Clap it up for XXX". So, some comics went up on stage in silence. Oh, my God!! How can comics go up in a vibe like that? He was a bad host. Can they not find someone better?
I was hosting. I am curious? Who were you? How was I not supportive? And when was there silence in the room? I remember keeping the energy up for every comic.
I had to take the last 6 weeks off and, knowing I was going to be rusty, wanted to be in a room that felt supportive and easy going. I think I found it here. I'll be back.
Done this mic a bunch of times Jefrey Paul by far the most supportive host, most comics stick around and there is even some non-comics in the room, just a tip, bad policy charging non-comics to watch a mic
Went to this mic a few weeks ago, imo bad mic. The producer tries to book you for his bringer show when you first show up, the host had zero energy, no one was listening...
Al Martin is like that character in "Casablanca" who owns the Blue Parrot; you know: the fat fuck who wears a fez. He's exactly like that guy, if that guy didn't have any integrity.
Good mic if you want to do 7 minutes and not have to wait for 25 comics go up before you. Yeh, it's a bit lean on the crowd but you know your material is strong if you can squeeze a chuckle from one person. More people should take advantage of this mic.
I generally perform here on Monday's, so i cannot distinctively utter words outside the parameters of environmental aesthetics and venue orientation.
Brian Host the Monday Shows and missing it is a luxury you cannot afford, the experience defies performance description, the mirage of comedic aura of appreciation pivots and aspires a motivational silver lining in the most gloomy of comedic sporadic moments. Hence the reason i love the New York Comedy Club.
I've never encounter Mr Yaffa, But i hope to experience the luxury of performing on his Open Mic in the near future.
Knock knock
ReplyDeleteWho's there?
Apparently Nobody, because this is the only post
Yaffa?!?! does that mean i can't do my hack paris hilton is a slut jokes?
ReplyDeleteWait... Paris Hilton's a slut?

DeleteNot a bad Friday mic.
ReplyDeleteThis mic can be good unless Adam is hosting
ReplyDeleteAdam runs his room like a meat locker. Why waste time with a warmed up room when you can truly test your jokes?

ReplyDeleteFirst come, first go? Or is this pre sign up...THANKS!
ReplyDeleteFirst come first serve Emma
ReplyDeleteWow, what an awesomely depressing group of comics. I had a blast....See you sad sacks next week! You all kick ass!
ReplyDeleteThis mic has no personality. Rather do Hector's
ReplyDeleteI've been here a couple of times and had a great time. However, a word of caution, the host will try to sell you on his bringer show.

ReplyDeleteThe rotating host thing is not good. Better to have one guy doing it.

Good mic - new host Dave Mazzeo is energetic, positive and keeps the mic going at a good pace. Good comics too and a supportive room.
ReplyDeleteHi Mike,
DeleteI'm looking for an open mic tomorrow night. Is there a real audience too or just comics?
