  1. Great supporting room.
Comics pay attention and not going through their notes when your on stage.
Average stage time is 5-8 minutes.
    Great hosts
Audience members are not just Comedians.
Being in the Hotel, you get audiences drop in who are hotel guests.
Nice crisp Mic and sound system.

  4. I've written a couple of negative reviews lately, so let me just post that of the six places in L.A. where I have performed this room is the best.

The people don't talk to each other while you're doing your set, and you feel as if you're near "normal" people as opposed to jaded assholes.
Also, Gene is probably the best open mic host in the city.

  5. This place is great. The other comics are really supportive as well as the host. If you get there early enough your bound to get up. I was able to work on my new stuff as well as polish my old stuff. Holly Hotel is a great place for comics.

  6. The room is really supportive as mentioned. It's dark and lit with blue and purple lights so you can still see the crowd. The host Gene is a great guy. Wednesday is a new night so when I went I got six minutes which is kind of rare. Might not be like that next but IT'S STILL ONE OF THE BEST OPEN MICS. cheap drinks are another bonus.

  7. I like this room, it's friendly and not at all clique-y. The regular host wasn't there tonight but the guest host was great. He made sure everyone who signed up was able to go up (everyone got 5 minutes) and still kept the show short. The other comics are courteous and don't run the light or talk during your set. Will definitely be back.

  8. One of the first open mics I've ever done and this place was awesome. The comics are supportive and Gene is by far the best host I've had thus far. Super cool atmosphere as well. The hotel guests that pop in and make a legit audience as well are a great addition as well.

  9. I have to agree with what everyone else has said: it's a great room; the comics are supportive; Gene is awesome; you even get hotel guests hanging around. It's all true. I'm a fan.

  12. this place is awesome. regular, down to earth people that are learning how get funnier. totally mixed crowd. hipsters, cholos, hacks, REALLY good amateurs, trust fund babies, secretaries, professionals... if you have a pulse, there is no way you won't feel at home here. bartender is super cool and so is the host. no one has attitude. no one is talking during your set (or laughing, unless you're funny, lol). if you get laughs here, it's cause you earned them. don't be scuuuurred though! I love this place!

  13. The reviews on this place are true. Probably the best open mic I've ever been to. Really chill, everybody's just messing around, but also trying to do well. I will definitely be returning.

  14. This is definitely a welcoming place to get up and perform. Definitely awesome that you'll get up at some point.
Recently I would say the comics are starting to pay less attention one another than they used to, but such is the protocol of a regular open mic.
While Gene is a welcoming host, he spends a lot of time talking in between comics, and IMHO, he scares off guests by giving them too much attention and making them uncomfortable for watching but not performing.

  15. I was there, about 5 months ago, and the only negative is that the comics there were NOT supportive. One of them was a homeless whackjob, who used the stage as a platform for an antisemitic dissertation, and he was cheered by another, drunken comic, who later, really sucked. I had to eat up a minute of my routine, cutting the first person up. The other comics were in the bar area, going over their notes and not even listening. The performers were super-funny, though, except for the Nazi and his Sympathizer. There was this Black dude, who was hilarious, talking about his fear of being "raped." I want to contact this guy and book him, if anybody knows who he is.

    1. So I read this and when I went there I saw the crazy homeless dude and he smelled so I kept moving away. But when he went up his jokes were actually good if he did not smell and wore a suit and did not read his stuff off notes you could actually book him. I think you were misunderstanding him his joke was not anti-jew it was a joke making fun of Holocaust deniers it was something like "The Jews rounded up from 599,999,999 to six million" but maybe you heard other stuff, I don't know. Oh well.....

  16. Ok place. Got there early cause it said so on the site but that was no help. Put my name in the can but so maney others came later and put their name in too that people would come in mutch later, get picked, go up and do their set, leave. So I complain after about 3 or 4 hours and they put me up. The host I think his name was John Silver was a cool guy and fair. Try and figure out the Facebook sign up sounds beter. Most people mill about and talk and don't listen to sets but some do. No tourists seem to be there from the hotel. Someone needs to hang out in the lobby and say free comedy show downstairs.

    1. Hi. This is John. You must be talking about the Thursday night Show. We do the sign up for Thursday on Facebook every Wed 12. We book the first 23 comics to join the Facebook event. Then, at the show, we have a lottery as we go. Anyway, I'm glad you stuck around and I'm glad we finally got you up. Hope you'll come back again.

  17. Are they still doing Open Mics at the Hollywood Hotel? I keep reading great reviews, but no sign that it still exists...

    1. Wouldn't the great reviews constitute a sign that it still exists?
