Yes, the place is crawling with hipsters. Sure, then stage lighting consists of a desk lamp pointed at the comics. But I'll be damned if this isn't a comfortable room. The upstairs seating mainly consists of couches, the crowd is respectable in size and receptive, the downstairs bar has $2 drafts, and the upstairs bar had $2.50 PBR cans.
Easily one of my favorite Monday open mics. If you can add it to your circuit, do it.
Indeed, it's a pretty great room. Mostly comics, but they were super receptive and open and loose. And the room is so great! Yeahyeahyeah, the lighting leaves some to be desired, but the seating arrangement makes it easy to lounge out and laugh and have a good time.
Came in from out of town, tried three open mics monday night, Shambles was the top of the group. Mostly comics, but as the other two posters mentioned, the room was really comfortable. Haven't really gotten a great feel for the Chicago open mic scene, but of the 4 i've done, this room was the most fun.
Poor, poor Shambles. It's dying a slow, painful death, less and less people showing up every week - and I haven't seen a non-comic in that room in ages.
100 Proof is really killin', I guess. I still like this room, and I still think Ever and Rasa are swell. But, don't come expecting big crowds!

I was here over christmas break and thought it was a cool little spot. I bombed but still, there were people there listening and paying attention.
