  1. Parking is on the street at Ankeny’s, or you can park next door in the lot for $5. This room is for standup only. No music or poetry. There is no stage. A mic is set up to one corner of the room, which seats 41, all visible to the stage. Two muted TVs were on, one TV right above the stage area, but that TV is turned off during the show. The room has been going on since the fall of 2018. Normally, the room is run by a woman named Lacey; however, she was not there the night I performed, and a gentleman named Noah took on the reins of emceeing. There are no language restrictions.
Signup is first come first choice, however, the order is subject to change. By that, I mean if someone needed to go up early, even if they signed up late, it’s possible someone will go up before you, even if your name is before them. I didn’t care for that, but I accept that is how this room works.
The signup sheet came out 7:35pm. There were 15 spots on the sheet. I took the second spot. Talent gets four minutes, so the mic moves swiftly along.
The business serves pizza mostly, even by the slice. I had their chicken Caesar salad, which was very good. Quite a bit of chicken. To drink they offer beer on tap, but they have a full bar if you like the hard stuff, save for blended drinks. And that’s good, because a blender would definitely affect any performer, so close the bar is to the area of performance.
The room started at 8:15pm with 21 people in the room. Sure enough, I went up second and played to 20 people. The number of attendees pretty much stayed the same, 18 people by 9:15pm. One after the other, talent went up, and before you knew it, the room was over. I think the room is deliberately set up to go fast, because there is a third mic comedians want to get to after this one.
Guys, this is a good room to do, the second of three on a Thursday night if you are that aggressive about hitting mics. Four minutes is not a lot of time, but it’s enough when you consider you’re doing three sets in a night. People stayed to support talent, and the food is pretty good.
