  1. I suspect Java Jungle is a hot spot in Reno. When I arrived at 6:05pm, there were 3 names already on the signup sheet, which came out 5 minutes earlier.
Parking at Java Jungle is on the street. The place seats about 38. The business is actually two rooms, one serving coffee, tea and other nonalcoholic beverages and where the kitchen is located, so food like pizza, sandwiches and appetizers are served there. But you are allowed to bring that into the second room where the open mic takes place and that is the bar room, which is a full bar. The stage is an elevated portion of the room to one side. Matt, who has been running the room for over a year, even though the venue has been going on for 15 years, sets up two mics. He is a musician himself.
Signup is first come first choice, and talent gets 15 minutes. I took the first spot because I had a second venue to get to. All genres of talent are welcomed. There are only 12 spots for the evening, which goes till 10pm, sometimes 10:30pm.
There are two muted TVs on, but that was not a distraction. What was a distraction was the noise from the room where the coffee grinder was in constant use. Or a blender. I sat closest to the entrance of the bar area and found it difficult to hear the poet who followed me. By 6:40pm there were 7 people who had signed up. After Matt opened he brought me up, and I played for a room full of 21 peeps. Some were watching football, but mostly everyone was listening.
Guys, this room may be a hot spot in Reno, but they are in need of more comedy. The audience was very good, but they are not used to comedy in this room. Mostly musicians. Give this room a go. Fifteen minutes is a chunk of time on stage, and mostly those who are in the bar room are there for the open mic and not anything else. Matt is a very good host, keeping the flow going at a steady pace. I can see why this room has been going on for 15 years.
