  1. Andy has been running open mic at Mission Roast the 3rd Friday of every month for 13 years, but, unhappily, this room may discontinue soon. Andy’s time is not as flexible or as free as it used to be. If someone else does not agree to take over, Andy may very well stop doing open mic as his schedule simply may not permit it. Sadly, this room may discontinue soon. So, like with all venues, call ahead of time to see if it’s still going on. As of this posting, it still is.
Parking is on the street. The stage is a platform in one corner of the room. It holds two mics. The business serves coffee & tea and pastries on display, and if you’re hungry, some sandwiches, salads and grilled food. The place seats about 60, about a third of the chairs are set to face the stage. The rest of the chairs are arranged around tables. This is a family-friendly establishment, so watch your language when on stage. Spoken word artists and comedians get 5 minutes; musicians 7 or 8 minutes or 2 songs. Five people were already in line to signup when I arrived. It’s first-come-first-choice and the open mic takes 15 performers. By 6:45pm, 9 spots had been taken. By 7pm there were 27 people in the room.
Guys, I hope this room continues if Andy decides to retire. It’s only once a month, so mark it on your calendar. Of course, call ahead and check that it’s still going on, but do this room. And 27 in the room is not a bad number. For Bay Area comedians, go to this room. But be clean. Maybe other venues offer more time, may even be a hot spot in the Bay Area, but they fill up fast. This room already has a line forming before the sheet comes out, but not so much such that if you come at the time signup happens, you won’t get a spot. You will. Lastly, truthfully, I have not found that many open mics on a Friday in the Bay Area. Take advantage of this venue while it lasts.
