  1. While open mic has been running for close to 4 years at Northshore Community Center, its current producer, Peter, has been running it for 2 months, and this is a once-a-month venue. A gentleman named Dave emceed the show that evening.
There is plenty of parking on the street or across the street in a lot, where I ended up parking. I phoned earlier in the day to verify the event was still going on and learned that you can actually signup ahead of time. Peter offered me a 6:20pm spot and a 7pm spot. The show started at 6pm. I took the 7pm, because Peter said more people come as the evening progresses. People brought in food or drinks from outside but no alcohol. Also, there is no bad language on stage. Families can and were attending. The center offered an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner for $5. Popcorn and coffee were offered too with a donation jar in plain view.
I showed up about 6:30, believing my spot was 7pm. There were 32 people there when I arrived, not counting the producer or emcee. The Center is one big room, offering one, big stage. It was very hot inside, even with all the fans they had on, both overhead and standing. They were running late, and I didn’t go up till after 7:20pm. The stage relied on nature to stay lit, which concerned me, as I wanted to make sure the audience could see me. It was pointed out to me some lights on stage and overhead on the back wall, but in the time I was there they never came on. (Know that I performed Aug. 20th. Plenty of lighting.)
Overall, I’m very glad I did this room. The drive was long, but it was beautiful. I drove from Santa Rosa. I passed by the Petrified Forest and Old Faithful Geyser. As long as the drive was, it was not boring. Yes, Lucerne is an out-of-the-way place. Unless you plan to go boating on Clear Lake, there’s not much reason to find yourself along any shore. Still, if you do find yourself communing with nature, visiting a state park, and still want to be sure to get in a workout on stage, this venue is a good room to do. People afterwards commended me, talked to me, and I felt very welcomed right from the beginning. Someone’s birthday was being celebrated and this gentleman comes up to me and offers me a piece of cake. How nice was that? I declined the slice. I had my fill on stage.
