  1. Vince’s is obvious an Italian restaurant, and they do have a full bar. Open mic, which is exclusively devoted to comedy, takes place in the bar, but there are also tables where you can eat. I had their special that night, lobster fettuccine, for only $15. The business shares a large parking lot with other businesses, so parking should never be a problem.
The stage is a platform that faces the bar, but the downside of its location is that it’s right next to the entrance. During the course of the evening, while talent performed, people came in and out, always crossing in front of the performer. And while the platform elevates the talent so you can still see their face, wow, did it prove a distraction. The room seats about 36. They have four muted TVs on. The television above the stage is turned off prior to the show.
The room is run by a woman named Wendy. However, she was not there that night. Sign up is first come first choice. There are no language restrictions. Comedians get five minutes, the light at four. I learned from the guest emcee Edward that the room has been going on at least a year. Talent waits back stage and are comped pizza and one drink.
I arrived at 9:15pm and already there were two comedians at the bar. The guest emcee arrived 9:30, but not knowing who he was, I saw the signup sheet very late. Already 13 names were on the list when I learned we had a guest emcee that night. I took the fourteenth spot, and there was only one other comedian after me.
As it turns out, this is a competition. A suggested donation jar is put out and the audience drops in a few dollars. The winner – decided by the largest amount of applause a comedian gets – takes the prize home. Of course, I had no friends with me, so I knew I was not going to win. The winner was the last comedian who brought the most peeps. No surprise there. There were about ten people in the audience. The show is supposed to start at 10pm, but we did not get going till 10:10pm.
Guys, even though it’s a competition, and unless you bring peeps, you’re not going to win, I still recommend doing the room. I can tell you that, while the guy who did win had some good material, he did not get the most laughs, just the most applause when it came time to judge. And friends of comedians may intentionally not laugh at your material, thus supporting their comedic friend even more, but that should not sway you. Play to the general audience who were there for laughs. You do get free pizza and a comped drink, and the talent was very supportive of one another. Met some good people there, and the food was quite delectable.
