  1. First off, this Mexican cuisine cafĂ© is not located at 6655 Hollywood Blvd. but around the corner of that block, east of 6655 just a slight ways up the side. The room is run by a gentleman named David, a comedian himself for 7 years, and he’s been doing this room for about 8 months. Signup is 8:30pm and starts at 9, though the night I went it didn’t start till 9:10. There were two comedians ahead of me. Talent gets 6 to 7 minutes, depending on the number of signups. There were about 17 persons in attendance, and a couple more outside who could see and hear from the open window. There are no language restrictions, but if you see a child come in, of course, clamp the four-letter words till the room is adults only again. David also pointed out that subject matter matters, however. He’s less concerned with the foul language than what a comedian may be spewing. I get that.
This is a pretty good room. I had to pay for public parking a block away, which was $20, but if you go with a couple comedian friends like I did, the expense isn’t that bad. And, of course, patronize the establishment for permitting open mic at their business. It is, after all, why they have it. Note: they do not serve alcohol.
Some of the people in attendance were there just to watch, which is great, having civilians (people not there to perform) in the audience, but even the comedians stayed and supported for a little while before moving on. David tells jokes between acts, trying to keep the energy high with little down time.
