  1. For open mic at Rosie McCann’s, you either do street parking, which I found difficult, or there is a paid parking lot around the corner about a half a block, which I found acceptable. Rosie is a full bar and restaurant with an Irish theme but offers a lot more. You may get your fill before performing with a choice of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches even some Thai options, and signature chicken and pork chop dishes. You can easily turn this into date-night while at the same time getting a performance in.
Matt runs the room, has been doing so for 3 months, even though the room has been going on for 3 years. Talent gets 3 pieces or 12 minutes, and there are no language restrictions. Matt also works for the bar, does the lighting, and books shows for the restaurant. Signup is first come first choice. A general audience can range from 5 to 10 peeps, I am told. The place seats about 28 comfortably. Matt takes as many as 15 signups, and the evening goes till everyone’s performed. Talent under the age of 21 are encouraged to go up before 10pm, so even though signup is first choice for first arrivals, Matt may have to at times mix it up to get those under 21 on stage in time.
There were 9 people in attendance when the show started, and 20 at its peak. Matt opened with 3 songs on his guitar then brought up another musician. I had signed up for number 4, but because only one other person signed up before me, I became number 3. I must say how receptive I thought the audience was. I got an applause break after my first joke. Not just for me, but I noticed the whole room paid attention to all the talent. They were there for the show, even those waiting their turn focused on who was on stage. I do appreciate that.
Matt runs a solid room. I don’t know who ran it before him, but he’s been at it for a few months and I’m glad.
