and what do i do if it wont let me on any computer??? mine or the one in the library?????? as a matter of fact thats the case with all the ones that say "email to sign up"
Great open mic last night. Have to sign up ahead of time, by emailing Pete, to get one of the coveted 12 spots.
Worth it. Pete and Ilya are good, funny guys, and the comedians were really strong across the board.
Also helped that the crowd was probably about 30-35 people with only the 12 performing comics, so the audience was there to laugh, not to study/shred your fragile heart with their judging eyes.
Really enjoyed the actual room's design aesthetic, which was right out of Clockwork Orange, and it was constant fodder for all the comics.
That will happen when you're performing on a couple boxes in a room that looks like the inside of Beetlejuice's colon.
Check it out for yourself (you'll see what I mean) every Tuesday night at 9. Great time had by all!
Good mic, the hosts go out of their way to get people from the bar to watch so that we can try our stuff on real audience members, and frown on comics leaving early, so most stay. Good energy, supportive room, lots of people.
Only two issues: 1) The mic fills up for weeks, so it's hard to get a spot. You won't get a spot for 3 or 4 weeks, so it's a pain if you don't plan ahead and are juggling a lot of mics every week. 2) The hosts talk A LOT in between every single comic. And not even to the comics, mostly just to each other. This is fun at first, but gets old fast. I understand doing material in between comics when the energy lags, but not between every single comic. I'd prefer getting comics up fast and not wasting time so the mic doesn't drag on; it also makes it easier when other comics are waiting for their turn.
Regarding the email address: if you have a Mac, you can press and hold Control and click on the email link and copy the email address. I think with a PC you just right click and do the same thing.

Hands down the best mic I have been to in the city thus far. Very well run, not too long of a show, and Pete and Ilya are great to work with. Just make sure to contact them a week in advance to try to get a spot or put your name in the lottery to get a spot the night of the show. (The pick 3 names from a hat throughout the show.)
This is really the best mic in the city. It doesn't even fell like a mic because most mics are soul sucking experiences. This place is a Godsend thanks to Ilya and Pete.
IT is a great mic and great audience. One could actually get a tape out of it, but for the light. If only they could arrange for the light to be shown from the top and make the stage bigger. For a mic this popular, these fixes would make it fantastic. I LOVE this space the hosts are very friendly and amazing people, way to go.
There is an audience at this mic which is rare and comics stay till the end which is even rarer. The hosts Ilya and Pete are the salt of the earth. It is a very vanilla room but it's good to be seen by as many different types as you can as a comic so that a small gripe.
I wanted to thank the hosts for running a room, this room, and it's not a pay to play room. I have no idea what the June 13th Post is referring to. Sounds as if they are making a negative comment. Any room that has real audience is a blessing. So, please re-post a positive comment or re-write the comment; as it seem to be a nice room.
The hosts seemed nice, but they talked too much between people's sets. When I listened back to my recording of my set, I could still hear the laughs, but it was a lot harder because the music From the bar was so loud. Also, the majority of people bombed when they went up. It's a hard room, it's probably not best for beginners. But the people who had clearly been doing comedy for a while did okay.
i tried looking for this place today. can someone confirm that the address is correct?
ReplyDeleteThe building number was incorrectly posted as 213. The correct building number is 231 and has been fixed on the website. I am sorry about this.

Great mic. Probably about 25 people there, handful of them non-coms. Good feel to the room and nice, supportive hosts.

ReplyDeleteRigged bucket. Unless you're a hot girl or know the hosts, don't bother showing up.
