  1. Bar is in pretty shitty condition. Show was supposed to start at 6PM on a friday night, but a coworker was the headliner, so we showed up closer to 7. The bar was empty, and comedians had been going for awhile. $5 cash to get in the door. Sat up front while the rest of our group trickled in over the next hour. Early comedians kept whining about how unresponsive the crowd was (The majority of the crowd at that point was comedians, so I don't really understand that), but the vast majority weren't telling jokes so much as repeating ones they heard or telling stories they thought were funny. Audio was turned up way too loud, and comedians who couldn't handle it just yelled at the audience.

  2. I had reviewed Winston’s before on their general open mic on a different night, where all genres are welcome. The one on Friday is for comedy only.
Signup actually takes place days ahead. Contact Andrew who runs the room via FB and let him know the Friday you’d like to perform. He responds accordingly. Talent gets five minutes, the light at four. There are no language restrictions. Parking is on the street. Winston’s has a nice stage, and two mics are set up. Overall, the place seats about 65. Andrew has been running the room for 11 years.
The business is a full bar. They don’t, however, serve food. You may bring in food from outside, though, and on the premises they do offer bags of chips. Beers are only $5.50 for a pint. Two muted TVs were on when I arrived, but they are shut off before the show begins. One muted TV behind the bar stays on, but it does not at all interfere with the performers.
The evening started at 6:08pm. Counting everyone, there were 13 people in the room. As the evening went on, attendance grew. By 7pm there were 22 peeps watching the show. Mostly, after talent went up, they stayed to support other comics. I got the fifth spot. While on stage, I did feel the support of the room. Comedians were watching the stage more than their phones. Some in the audience were there just for the show and not to perform. I heard laughs at times, and the energy in the room stayed remarkably high. Most of the talent knew one another, so there was a lot of camaraderie, including riffing on stage and off. The evening ended with Andrew doing five and thanking everyone for coming out. We wrapped at 7:13pm.
Guys, this is a good room to do. Both nights. Andrew knows what he’s doing, keeping the interest and energy high. Happy hour drinks are well priced, and the support is evident in the room, with comedians watching the show till it’s over. This room is a great way to start a weekend of performing.

  3. I'm pretty sure this a dead mic. I've checked several times via phone and in person, and usually they're having music on Fridays, unfortunately. Once in a while, comedy, but not usually.
