  1. Show up no later than 4pm to get an early spot on the list (posted on the front door the last time I went.) Nice decor and lighting, a microphone that works, a properly lit stage, and a host that runs the show professionally and keeps it moving. So often at other mikes even that little seems too much to ask for, but Stand Up New York is a nice place to do comedy.

  2. I like this place a lot. A good, respectful place the ply the trade.

  3. Addendum to my last (the first) comment: Last time I showed up at 4:45 and managed to get the first spot on the list, so maybe you don't need to show up as early as I initially thought -- turnout was a lot lighter this time around.

  4. Just curious how this place is for first timers. Currently I have a full time job on nights at 730 (yeah I know not very conducive for trying to break into stand up)and an earlier show really works for me right now. Any thoughts?

  7. I spent a week doing open mics in NYC and SUNY had by far the best premises of them all. A proper stage, flawless PA, an actual stand up club atmosphere.

  8. Is it absolutely impossible to get a spot if you show up after 5 p.m.?

  9. I got there one week at 4:05 and there was already a list of 18 people. So probably impossible to get a spot after 5.

  10. I wish every mic were like this one. Missy is one of the most professional and friendly hosts out there. Great club, great people, very responsive audience of seasoned comics. Yayyyy.

  11. Missy is a good host. The stage and mic are good. It's fairly supportive although some people leave early or hang outside until their set, then leave after... but that's open mic's for ya.

  12. Let me respond to the comment on March 23rd.

This is how this mic works. A sign-up sheet is put on the door in the morning. But if you know someone who works at the club, you can call or text them. They can put your name on it. It is who you know.

Missy Baker is a great Host.
    Always very supportive.
Get there early the spots fill up quick.
Great to see comics stay until the end of the show.
    No major Ego's-
And for once an open mic with female comics!

  16. The signup sheet fills up quickly and is placed on the door early. A good mix of regulars and non-regulars so it isn't filled with in jokes and basically everyone just talking to each other. They are supportive.

The host is great and really gets the energy going, this is a good mic to do.
