  1. Parking at Hola Habibi, and it is on the street and paid up to 10pm. The open mic is for standup only, and it has been going on for six months. There are no language restrictions. Talent gets five to seven minutes, and it’s first come first choice.
The room is run by a gentleman named Lex Las Vegas, and he has the vitality of a game show host. Imagine people approaching him for the first time and calling him “Mr. Las Vegas” when introducing themselves.
Lex showed up at 8:45pm, and the signup sheet came out just after 9pm. We had six signups right away. I got the fourth spot. The mic takes place outside on their patio, and it seats about 30 who can see the mic and stand on a platform stage. A cloth brick wall curtain is set up as a backdrop to the stage. There are no distractions, unless someone is crossing the patio to get to the door to go inside Hola Habibi.
The business is a full bar, and they do allow outside food. It was Taco Tuesday at a food truck, so we gorged on chicken and vegetarian tacos.
By 10:05pm we had eight signups. The room intentionally started late because of a basketball game that was evidently important to Las Vegas, so we got underway at 10:20pm. I counted 14 people present, but only nine were watching. Other peeps stood away from the performance and audience area to smoke. I noted that a DJ plays music between talent, which kept the room lively, and Lex as the host, certainly brought energy to the room.
I think I did seven minutes. The amount of stage time varies per talent. The comedian after me got the light at 9 min 30 sec. My friend, who went up sixth, got the light at 5:06. I performed to 14 people, so it may be to your benefit to perform after the third or fourth spot, if you want a larger audience. The talent performing right after me also had the same audience. Inside, the seats along the bar were all taken at the bar. I asked the bartender if she heard my act, but she was too busy serving drinks, she told me. Otherwise, she told me she can hear the show outside from her pov. But because of the turnout inside, no one was paying attention.
Guys, overall this was a good experience. It was the first room of a three-day trip, and it started off well. My friend and I were well-received, and throughout the evening the room was filled with people paying attention to the show. Everyone outside is there for the mic. The amount of stage time may vary, but anything over 5 minutes is good stage time. This mic happens late enough that you can double-dip, having performed at an earlier mic that starts at 7pm.
