Went there on May 3rd...probably the 3rd or 4th open mic this place has ever had. It's a new spot not many people know about. For that reason, the crowd was a little sparse that night. There were quite a few people who were trying stand up for the first time and I think the room was supportive of them (unlike some other places). Casey, I think, is a great host and a genuinely nice guy and it looks like he really wants to have a successful room. I had fun, and I loved the chance to "perform" on the big stage at the Vic. I think, although a little "green" because of it's newness, this place has a lot potential and will definitely go back.
My buddy and I are aspiring comics and have been to this open mic twice. At least he will start performing next week.
Chris is right about Casey being a great host and a sincerely friendly guy. So if you've never performed, or still get really nervous, this would be a great place for you.
It looks like attendance is starting to pick up, but there's definitely still more room for comics and audience members. Get your asses over there! Not only is Casey great, but it's the fuckin Vic! Bill Hicks has been on that stage, along with Jim Gaffigan, Henry Rollins, Norm Macdonald, and others.
I checked this place out and a week later I was up doing my first set ever. Casey is one of the nicest hosts i've met. He watches ever set intently finding your humor when no one else does. This is THE BEST place to do your first set at because it will get those jitters you always get when your first start out. Making that long walk up to the stage when they call your name is enough to get my comedy juices flowing. You go into the place, FOR FREEE, with no expectation of buying any food or drink, there are no waitresses checking in on you and no distractions. Although its downfall is that no one can get off work in time. Get this open mic bumped to 6 or 7 and you have the best open mic in town. This place is a diamond in the rough and there is no way I can have this open mic go down because I and the many other comics who have gone here can agree that there is no other venue to perform at. You can get your drinks, your snacks, your laughs and your long lasting memories at the vic. when i am 20 years older, I will still remember the lightings shining on me as I look out into that theatre with the dream that every comic has of being in front of a packed house. Everytime I go here I act as though the place is sold out and I will not trade anything for that feeling. Thank you Casey. "How much time i got left?.....Enough for a few more zingers!!!!"
