  2. This mic is so good it deserves more than one comment. I really recommend it, especially if you need a break from hoards of precious "nerd" comedians. And 6 minutes is not that common for NYC, go to this mic!

  3. fun mic but important to note: no drink ticket included, contrary to what it says

  6. went last week. it was cancelled :(

like they say. call before you haul.

  7. This is one of those open mics where you take your chances and pray someone shows up. I showed up one Saturday and they just shut the lights. No reason was given as to why it was cancelled. Life went on. You've been warned..........

  8. I personally didn't have a good time here. First off, I'll admit that I had a shitty set here. However, I knew it was gonna be bad from the first people I saw get up. Most of them were either aggressively bad or aggressively depressing (making up for dead silence with awkward crowd work), nobody's really paying attention to anyone, it was just a grim experience. I've never done a set so bad, but I also feel like I had the chi sucked out of me by the nine psychic vampires that started the show. Then some hackey douche who apparently had been on Whiplash (how he got on that show I have no idea; Kedzie Matthews from Mr. Show comes to mind) finished up, layering the icing on the cake of shit that had preceded him. What a fucked-out, disturbing mic. But a learning experience none the less; SPLIT IF YOU'RE NOT FEELING IT.

  9. i emailed the host, but he did not get back. do we get a confirmation?

  10. The host seems to not respond to anyone.

  11. Well least it not be said you work a bad room, it takes all types! While we were waiting the bartender chick kept trying to tell us we needed to buy two drinks to sit at the bar, so we waited outside for the show to get started so she would leave us alone. Nice host, pretty good group, and I did get some laughs so I think I did something right! At least no one was rude.

  12. It's a great mic. Good room, in the back of a bar so there was actually a small crowd. However, I'm not sure what the deal is with the cover. It says here that it's 5 bucks. I paid the five bucks, then a waitress told me there was a two drink min for sitting in the back for the show. I wasn't prepared for that at all. I didn't appreciate not being told that I'd have to spend the extra money to do the mic.

It also says on this ad $5 gets you 6 mins and a free drink ticket. Instead I was told I had to buy two drinks, which I managed to avoid. Sorry, I'm broke.

Also, whoever I emailed responded to both of my emails about booking, BUT when I showed up for the mic I wasn't on the list. That's not cool. I did get to go on, and I did a good set, so all went pretty well.

  13. two drinks? Nigga iz you crazy?

  14. i went there today. I paid five to perform, and it did not come with a drink as it says. but i did not have to have any drinks. they should make it clear.

  15. If you want to feel like you've hit rock bottom, and you feel a need to pay some fucked up sort of dues, by all means come here.

Someone please tell me, exactly which circle of hell this is.

(and don't tell us "free drink", then try to sell us two drinks plus a $5 charge.)

Even comics deserve a little respect.

  16. This mic has gotta go!!!

  17. I've been here a few times. There was a good vibe once, but the last time I was there will be the last time I ever go there. They advertise here that you get a free drink with your $5 sign up fee. There is no free drink, and in fact they demand that you pay for 2 drinks on top of that $5. And on top of it, they want to charge audience members $5 too. For an open mic? Its an amateur show. I am not going to ask my friends to drop $5 to get in, then another 8-10 for over priced drinks to see comics just practice. I have never been to an open mic that wants to charge audience members admission. I know more professional people are organizing open mics for Saturdays, so I don't see this one lasting much longer.

  18. Save your time and money and don't go here.

Summarizing the tons of complaints here:

    - They charge BOTH comics and spectators $5 to get in.
    - No other open mic charges audience to be there.
    - They advertise a free drink, but charge 2 drink minimum instead.
    - The person booking via emails isn't actually at the show. People get in front of you.
    - Simply put, the host is a dick.

  19. when i went there, a black guy hosted the mic. he was all about dick jokes and kept hitting on women in the audience. so predictable... he was not funny at all.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Okay...a black guy? I'm not racist but that's not cool.

  21. I found this mic frustrating and confusing. I'm not sure if emailing does any good, line up wise. They are finally honestly reporting that it's $5 plus two drinks, rather than a "drink ticket." The line up is determined by the host, not by the order you arrive. It all seems very capricious and pell mell. Mama HATES capricious and pell mell. I am going to other mics now and avoiding this frustration. I'm angry that comedians get treated this way. We are trying to improve our craft and are willing to pay money to do that. It's not right when people take advantage of that.

  22. yeah, the host does whatever he wants to do, and on top of that he is not funny...one of the worst mics in the city. It is definitely the worst mic on saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Small group, so everyone gets a shot. Host is often late, not funny, and last week left the room entirely and just left a dude up there for like eight minutes....the.poor guy was dying! The mic is plugged into a kids karaoke machine and the speaker is blown.....so not perfect. It's a stage and a mic.....great for first timers.

the Broadway Comedy Club open mic on Monday charged me an extra $3 dollars to bring a date to watch the show. so I'm assuming they charge everyone $3 to get in.

  25. who brings a date to an open mic? these comments are for the grisly pear not broadway fucktard.

  26. This Open-Mic is Great... Jude is awesome! Very Supportive Group of Comics. Went yesterday, Dave was hosting. Still a good turn-out. Best part is, you can solicit an Audience right off the street.

  27. Okay, since I was critical earlier here why don't I just continue in that vein. To wit: They should list a start time and a sign-up time. The mic usually starts at 6 pm, but this should be made clear in the listing. Positive note: the listing no longer states "sign up at this mysterious email address that really does nothing for you!" --well, that's what it should have said.

  28. Is this mic still happening every saturday? I want to come down tomorrow.

  29. Jude was a great host. New guy hasn't a clue how to keep energy up between sets. Not worth the money.

    1. I disagree. I never saw Jude host, but I think David's doing a great job. He's very supportive, he brings an enthusiastic crowd and he's always looking for ways to improve the open mic. As far as I can tell, Jude's legacy is a few bitter, unfunny guys who are always unprepared and strangely hostile to other comics. I think this open mic is totally worth it.

  30. Thanks for hosting this lovely mic, Davey! Feel safe to try out your funky material at this mic since people are all different comedy shapes and sizes. It's a good room, like a warm black womb, nice and cozy and fun:)

  31. I like this mic. It's a supportive crowd and there are often non-comic audience members which is a big plus. While Jude was energetic and lude, the new host is going for something different; intelligent well constructed comedy. I think it's a great mic.

  32. I love this mic and David is a great, supportive host that keeps the mic going at a great pace. Lots of female comics in the audience, which is a nice change.

  33. I've been twice and like this mic a lot! David is a great host, and a funny comic. The room is unusually supportive; most of the audience stayed until the end, and there was a handful of spectators. Highly recommended for female comics! Lots of funny ladies in the room!

  35. Is it still $5+ 2 drinks for comic and audience? I'm going to be in the city with my wife next Saturday and thought it would be fun for her to see me perform, but not at that price.

  36. My personal favorite mic. The room itself is a great space, feels like a legitimate dingy comedy club. It's a well-run mic as well. David's a funny guy - his opening material is good and he generally keeps things moving along quickly. When he does do a bit in between acts he keeps it short and sweet.

  37. Performed here for the first time last night. Extremely environmental friendly, a providential host and a receptive audience outside the parameters of comedians. An elongated shaped bar that seamlessly preceeds customers to the peculiar back open mic enigma.

The front bar verbal jitters can subdue a monotonic comic in an already incongruous dichotomy, However, a vehement comedian overrides all of the vociferousness at the bar. The audience overall appreciative comradery surpasses that of most open mics within its ten to 15 block predecessors radius.

The potentiality of this open mic location is demographically uncanny, the epitome of west village artistic and cultural stigma. Primarily in the vicinity of where greats like Hendrix, Clapton, and many of our legendary predecessors performed.'Magnificent'

  38. Went to this mic after hearing good things. Maybe it was a fluke, but it was nothing like what I had heard. A lot of the comics only appeared for their set then bounced. The one's that were there from the start still left after their set. No support. Only about 3 comics stayed the whole show. The room was dead.Even comics I thought were good bombed. The host did a really good job, though. Maybe just a bad night.

  39. Good room, though I'm not too keen on charging audience members. We need non-comic audiences, man!
