come drunk and drink more. fun place. supportive comics. pool players, loudish music in the front, barflies, and eastern block bikini-clad waitresses make it a plus...or a division symbol.
correction on the last comment 2-pot bellied waitresses serving drinks with enough cellulite on their legs to donate dimples to a small village in the far east. the plus is Carrot Top's the host, but he has aged and wears glasses now. the co-host is pretty, but has noticeably taken in too many servings of the pu-pu platter, and egg foo young! I would suggest she build a strong relationship with steamed vegetables. The mic's a 6 tops. I'm in a good mood!
It's pretty easy to knock a mic/other comedians when you're anonymous, huh?
Definitely starts at 9, not 8. Sign up is at 8:30. Ends at 11.
This is a great mic, good comics, very supportive. Even if you're a weird, vindictive, idiot who posts mean comments on badslava, we would love for you to come back and try again. maybe you just had a bad night.
averybody here is sooo stoopid, they try act like im not funny but they all suck. i hate how they act so offinded when i tell joke bout aids but its like shutup. y'all need to smoke mor weed lol
Agreed, if there's one thing this mic is lacking, it's aids jokes. Can we make this an all aids joke open mic? I feel that niche has yet to be filled in this great city.
First of all, I've never been offended by an AIDS joke in my whole life. So, were they offended or were they just not laughing?
Secondly, that's very nice of you to say I have friends. I'm pretty insecure about that kind of thing and remain pretty guarded against showing my emotions. So, it means a lot to me to hear from a third person observer that I appear to have friends. Next time you're there, if you could just point out to me which people seem to care about me the most.
However, this implies that you are not my friend. Why not? Did I do something to make you mad? I didn't mean to. How many times have you come? Did we talk at all? I like to hang around afterwards and talk out front, especially if someone will bum me a cigarette. Do you have cigarettes? Why are you being mean to me?
And thirdly, I don't always enjoy the mic. I try to. All of us do, I think. We support the mic. Most people stay til the very end so that the last person is still performing for 17 people and not 2 people like most mics.
But sometimes there's a negativity in the air that I just can't stand. You know what I'm talking about because, from what you've said, you're guilty of it.
Obviously, you were sitting in the audience, waiting to go on, looking at your notes and thinking, "I feel like only the host and his friends are enjoying this mic. I'm not enjoying this mic. That guy's joke isn't funny. Neither is THAT guy's. And they're STILL enjoying themselves? Why? I'm going to write a negative comment on BadSlava later...anonymously."
So, just stop doing that and maybe you'll have a better time. I do agree with you about one thing. Their jokes SHOULD be funnier. After all, there's no excuse for jokes that aren't funny at an open mic.
This mic was much much better at Port 41. At Republik, comics hang out in the back and talk. They never used to do that at Port. It's a shame really. It's also not fair. If you want people to watch you, you need to watch them.
Yep, it's like they were forced by management to leave Port 41 and 3$ Tavern (the former 1-Republik) was gracious enough to tolerate a bunch of idiots who think they're funny.
Did this mic last night for the first time. It was great! Ryan and Jackie are super nice. Ryan was a great host. The crowd was good, mostly other comics as far as I could tell, but everyone was super supportive and laughed and paid attention. Definitely one of the few open mics I've actually enjoyed in the city. And it's free and the drinks are cheap. Can't go wrong here unless you're a jerkface. So don't be that and you're set!
Hello, fellow independent people!!! 'Drunken Mic 3D' Wednesday Open Mic is CANCELED FOR THE HOLIDAY. Everyone who's signed up already will be on next week's list. Please have an AWESOME and SAFE holiday, peeps. But if your hand does get blown off by some kind of explosive that's a new premise and bit. HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!!! XOXO ♥
This mic is alright. You're going to want to email Jackie ahead because if you get into the walk-on list you're FUCKED. people stop paying attention and the bar starts playing music. The beginning is pretty good though when all the comics are paying attention. The host is a funny and relatively nice guy but he needs to learn to keep the show going. every time he goes up to bring up the next comic he will do a 5 second bit to try and get a laugh which usually ends up just being chuckles. Last night people were actually yelling "Keep it moving!". But other then that its a good mic for a bar show.
this place is a dump!!!
ReplyDeleteNo, it used to be a dump. Now it's just a dive.
ReplyDeleteLove it! And I Crystal is an ah-mazing host!
ReplyDeleteThis place sucks! Two Spunge Bob Square Pant women host who are drunk crack whores who worked the docks with Olive Oil;)..Don't waste your time!

Awesome mic. Nuff said. Highly recommend.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, efficient, and fair mic, caring comics and wackos. Thanks! -kip
ReplyDeleteThe ONLY thing I don't like about this mic is Kip, who is just to NICE to be a human.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, If I had to choose between saving Kip or saving a puppy from a burning building WITH THE STIPULATION that I ONLY save a HUMAN...
I wouldn't know which to choose...THAT'S how nice Kip is. As unhumanly nice as a burning puppy.

ReplyDeleteagreed with the comment above. I got the feeling that only the host and his friends were enjoying the mic, whether their jokes were funny.

DeleteFunniest open mic I have ever been to. Close knit group of comic. People more into great long rants rather than a lot of clever jokes.

Brooklyn Underground mics are the worst around. See for yourself. You won't disagree.
