I've done 5 open mics now and I like this one. I like the little bar in front, the bartender was welcoming and the club in back looks and feels like other professional clubs in NYC. Of course, so far every open mic I've been too, its only other comics waiting to go on and if your last, your playing to about 4 people. I don't mind that, cause at this stage of my career, I'm just trying to get used to the feeling of getting up on stage and holding a mic in my hand!
This is a very good mic. Host is extremely supportive of comics of all levels. Like most mics in the 6pm range, the size is not small and mostly other comics. But that's normal, it's an open mic.
Great place to practice getting stage time and workout new material while experiencing what it like to be on stage with lights in your eyes.
I'm new to open mics, but did this mic on Tuesday and I'd agree with all the positive comments above. Good venue, host (HP) is friendly and supportive. Of course, i'm biased and still on a high from the Free Entry voucher he gave for a strip joint.
It's a lovely mic. HOWEVER: If the signup is advertised as being at 5:30, and people arrive early only find that there is a list outside with 15 names on it, that's not cool. Management: Please take note. It would be appreciated if you either: A) began the sign-up at 5:30 as advertised or B) advertised the signup as beginning when the list (outside the club, mind you) is posted I was told it might have been as early as 2PM. If someone other than club management posted the piece of paper outside the wall, perhaps said lists should not be honored? Just a suggestion. Regardless, please be more mindful of keeping the advertising of signup time consistent with the actual signup time. Thank You.
Sorry for the sign up mix up but if you were on a list already started I will honor but if your on a club list I will mix and match the best I can so I don't get stabbed at the end of the mic. If you let me know ahead of time I usually accommodate to bump you UP so please do so and thanks for the advise
This has been my expeience here too. Above desciption is spot on. Shame cause it's a pretty decent mic but super shitty sign-up policy. Hosts don't seem to care to do anything about it..
I had a great time doing this MIC. It was a little dead but think labor day weekend had something to do with it. HP was the host and he tried his hardest to make everyone feel comfortable. I recommend it.

DeleteDid this mic tonight. Had I not rushed through the set, I'd have done well. Regardless, people laughed and it was uncomfortable fun.
ReplyDeletePlease by all means don't rush next time and I usually give ya an extra minute sign up list permitting. So I give you an uncomfortable Thank You!
