  1. I performed at my first Village Lantern Open Mic this past Wednesday and, in spite of the roaring ball game crowd above, it was an excellent experience. Steve Rosso is a terrific emcee, he creates an amiable ambiance, and his wife sitting quietly next to him plays a great second banana (and I mean that in the most admiring and respectable terms). The comics there that night were funny and also made a good audience. In other words, they laughed at my jokes, and my flubs! That's the best I can say!
The candle-lit dungeon-like room adds a macabre feel which I think brings out the best in alot of comics!

  2. I came to the Village Lantern early show, and Ray Combs Jr. had tried to grab my dick. He also completely harassed me on stage, by pointing out that I had un-funny jokes, and cum stains on my hoodie. I will ran crying into the night, never to do comedy again due to his brash manner. I may or may not have been raped in the process, I was in a blackout.

  3. good mic, it had some people from the street come in to watch which was cool, the host ray combs jr has great energy & is funny BUT be prepared for him to yell random stuff, diss fellow comedians, and/or bash a handicapped person in the audience faster than you can say AMBESOL. if you can deal with all that, you're good to go!!! so go go go!!!

  4. hahahaha. I can't believe how dead on these two reviews are! But to be fair I tend to only make fun of the brain injured or the unfunny. If you happen to be both then it may not be the mic for you. LULZ

Also if you want to get on the weekly invite list just shoot an email to motelwednesday2@gmail.com and you will receive the weekly invite.

In all seriousness it's a room where I try to have fun and push the boundaries to keep everyone engaged as oppossed to looking at their notes while others are performing.

    Hope to see you there.

    Ray

  6. I did a show with Ray Combs about a month ago and I think he is a very talented performer. You have to understand the Ray Combs on and off stage are 2 totally different people. And he really works the crowd. you can't always go onstage and have everything go the way you want it to. If someone says you have un-funny jokes, then you should take a look at your jokes. Don't be insulted. I feel like I'm preaching on this biatch so i'm out Peace.

    Shout out to Ray.

  7. Ray makes fun of the "unfunny". Keep that thought in the back of your head when you get on stage, and he won't destroy you.

  8. ive only seen ray combs on stage twice. and both times it made me want to quit comedy cuz hes that good at it. the dude drops mad science.

  9. had a good experience my 2nd time there. its a mostly white hipster/yuppy crowd which isnt a "fantastic" audience for my style of comedy (so latinos be ready) but everyone is friendly & for the most part funny. Some random highlights: (1) not ONE but TWO handicapped brain injured comedians who were there SEPERATELY!!! (2) Ray Comb Jr doin a reinactment of "Who's on first" with one of them which was funny/weird but was outclassed when Ray pulled his nutsack out (literally), (3) i saw actor Judah Freidlander trying to get on the mic but he didnt sign up in time & (4) the waitress is HOT LIKE FIRE

  10. isn't a 2 drink minimum a bit plus 5$ cover a bit much?

  11. Very good mic with an even better MC. If Ray Combs Jr comments on your material before, after or during your set, be thankful and take it to heart; the man knows funny.

  12. That last post is debatable.

  13. I like this mic because it is full but I am real uncomfortable trying out/experimenting at this mic because I don't think Ray likes that and he will let you know it.

  14. Don't go to the early show. I stopped months ago.

  15. Ray Combs Jr. is an idiot! One day he is going to say something to the wrong person and get his ass beat! I only hope I am there to see it.

  16. I can see why so many in Ray Combs' circle think he is such a genius while so many other comics are so beneath him and his clique. Pulling your dick out on stage? This is revolutionary. Move over Richard Pryor.

  17. This is not the ideal mic to work out material. I don't know why, it just isn't. I find the energy of the place weird and the most expensive.

  18. you guys spend way too much time talking about some marginal dude...fuck him,,if he was that dope he wouldnt be hosting an open mic...get his dick out of your mouths...fuck ray combs....dont know him, dont really care....

  19. just looked him up to see what the whole buzz was about.....he's not that funny. still not impressed...honesty is great..but it still has to be somewhat funny, this dude is just sad....up the lexapro fag...i dont feel bad for you....

  20. A bit clicky but still the better of the open mics.

  21. 2 drinks and $5????? are you serious???? is the mic made of solid gold??? does it come with a spot on a comedy central special???? just some business advice, ya'll have priced yourselves outta the market. there's much better than you for alot cheaper!! oh and as far as clicky is concerned..... at least at eastville theyre funnier!!!

  22. I, for one, would like to see more reviews of Steve Rosso and the new Early Show host, Brian Frange! Ray is moving to Austin, so we can let him go now....

I hate the 2 drink minimum too. The Lantern sucks in that regard, but the $5 prize fee definitely keeps people around longer than at many free mics. I've performed for 2 people at the end of a free mic many times, but I'd say at the end of our mic, we usually have a minimum of 10 people still there to see if they win around $40.

    See ya around!

  23. This is a good one! Brian is a funny dude, and he gives back money! And the the comics are nice here, and there are usually some random audience people.

  24. Do we have to pay 5 bucks and buy 2 drinks to get 5 minutes?

    Is this true?

  25. Show is now at CB's right down the block, only a 1 drink minimum, still a $5 prize fee which goes back to the comics at the end of the show.

  26. This mic is fun. I like the prizes at the end, especially the joke of the night prize, which Brian Frange does a great job of managing.

They get some real audience on a regular basis, too, which is nice.

In addition, Steve Rosso does a nice job with the later show, and he enjoys the cuisine from the restaurant upstairs, which makes the mic better, because then he is properly nourished and satisfied.

Also, I highly suggest the cranberry juice, from the bar. I get it with ice.

  28. This mic is poorly run and the room is full of mummy's.

  29. The early show rocks. The comics are supportive and vocal. At times this mic can feel like a show. Brian Frange does a good job keeping the comics coming to the stage and if your stuff hits here it'll hit anywhere. Great room.

  30. I agree that the mummy situation has been a problem at this mic. But please know that we have already begun to hire various voodoo doctors and archaeologists in an effort to return these monsters back to the ground and thus relieving them of their cursed existence. Please be patient as this process takes longer than most would expect.
