This open mic is perfect accept for one crucial thing: the setting. The 7-10 Lounge is a bowling alley/bar/billiards hall, and you perform right in front of where people are playing pool. Combine this with no stage, and no dimming of lights, and you get one of the most uncomfortable settings for a comedian. However, there are a lot of talented people who frequent it, and the host is pretty good as well. This would be a perfect open mic if they just held it somewhere else.
i checked this out last night for the first time and it was pretty cool! the first 30 comics are guaranteed to go up and then there was an alternate list of about 15, so it's a pretty popular open mic.
that said, the room was never fully packed. many people sign up and then leave, or stand outside smoking, or go bowling until it's their turn. and most comics left right after they went up.
there is some background noise to deal with, but everyone in the immediate room is there to pay attention. w/ the microphone, the background noise isn't that big of an issue for reaching the ones who actually want to hear you.
7-10 usually draws a lot of comedians. It is reasonably priced and Bill is a great host. He encourages comics to do brand new material. Great open mic for comedians who are just starting out, or for anyone who has new jokes they want to test. The only problem is that there's some background noise from the bar (where many of the comedians will hang out) and from the pool room. But it's still a good mic.
bill is an awesome host its a damn shame this venue is so horrible, theres way to much goin on and the one mic on an amp is the worst. This was my least favorite of the open mics i have attendend in chicago. Bill I love you as a host but we need a better venue/stage for you bud.
Bill Cruz is a great host! I truly recommend this mic for young comics as well those who want to test out new material. There are cheap food and drink specials all night and Bill controls the list by way of random draw. Some folks don't like random draw but it's a fair way to control the list. Overall, it's a great hangout for comics and again if you're new it's a good chance to meet other comics go onstage, etc. Definitely worth checking out!

Wonderful host, horrible space. They cancel each other out to give you an OK open mic. Buy a mike stand!!!
