  2. Good mic, the comics are supportive of each other and Dale is an energetic host. The club is a bit dank and dark but the mic itself is enjoyable.

  3. New York Comedy Club=Disgusting!
    Superego=AWESOME!
    Worth it!

  4. Went for my first time last night and had a blast. Michelle is an awesome, energetic and friendly host who makes everyone feel welcome. The audience was attentive and responsive. Plus they give out cash prizes for those who stick around until the end. I will definitely be going back!

  5. I love super ego. It's a great night every time - the hosts are amazing, the other comics are insanely funny and they give cash at the end. seriously, my favorite mic I've found.

  6. God this is a horrible club. Tiny bar, dingy, dank, awful layout for telling jokes. But the mic is great. You don't have to show up a million hours ahead of time to get on because you sign up online in advance. Michelle is very supportive, though I don't think she laughs at all the jokes, she laughed at all of mine, loudly. And the chance to win back some $$$ at the end of the night makes at least half the comics stick around.

  7. This is a good mic to go to--there is decent energy there and not the miserable feel of most open mics. The downside is that you have to pay ten dollars for 4.5 minutes of stage time, which is one of the worst rates in the city.

  8. Hey - Michelle here! Thanks for all the kind words. Just to clarify an earlier comment - we charge $5, and give between 4.5-5 minutes of stage time. Thanks!

  9. Supportive hosts, smart folks. They have a great system and it runs like clockwork. Some open mics make me want to stab myself in the eye with a cyanide laced bayonet. Not Superego!

  10. I love super ego, ive been to some open mics, this one is the best...its an open mic, so there isnt going to be a live audience ...but superego usually has a nice mix of comics and comics friends which gives you an idea of how your joke will play. the hosts are cool, not arrogant assholes who are bitter ...i love this spot..if your thinking about a place to try out your shit...this is it....

  11. the comics are very supportive here! it kinda reminds me of passengers aboard a plane comforting and consoling each other because the airplanes engines have failed and it's gonna crash.

  12. Michelle is this 5$ cover plus a 5$ drink? or 5$ flat period?

    ReplyDelete
  13. It's $5 plus one drink (alcoholic or not). Come on down!

  14. but that is why they are saying it is $10 for 5 minutes. Because of the drink. SO it is $10 when you put it all together. that is a lot of dough.

  15. This is my favorite mic in NYC. It is well worth the $10 ($5 cover and $5 drink). The hosts are great, and they keep the show running smoothly. There is incentive to stay till the end, because there is a prize money drawing. And, if you stay for the whole mic, you will see a ton of great comedy, since great comedians perform there. Most of the comedians that perform at this mic are out to have a good time, too, so they give off a good vibe as an audience. Also, frequently there are "actual" audience members in the crowd, which is nice.

A lot of people seem to be complaining about the club being dirty and dingy. Maybe the club is not in pristine condition, but it does the job. At SuperEgo mics you are treated with respect and will most likely have a good time watching other acts. Even though the club might not be sumptuous, I'd rather perform at a SuperEgo mic than at an inferior mic in a fancier club.

  16. This has been my fourth open mic and so far my favorite. All the positive comments above reign true, and for people who are upset about paying a cover to perform, I wrote a little blog entry just for you. SHAMELESS PLUG: click on my profile to view.

Here are some things you'll get from SuperEgo:

    Well-behaved hosts
    A full five-minutes
    Diverse and intelligent audience
    A brick wall behind you
    Open mic tips, just ask
    Free viewing of headliner
Polite silence if your joke bombed

    1. Polite silence or disdainful silence?

  17. to that last post: it might be worlds greatest place, but why the $11-$12 for 4/5. $5 cover, $5 drink plus ya know ur not walkin away without tipping. So in ACTUALITY ITS $11-$12 MINIMUM FOR 4-5 MINUTES!!! Makes NO SENSE!!! theres free $3 or $5 ones all over. Ya pricing yourself out. consider just doing the the 1 drink. i dont mind buyin a drink. But i gotta draw the line at paying another comic $5 salary to host. Esp since they aint Tracy Morgan. Get him to host and Ill pay the cover.

  18. Then go to your food stamp open mics and clam up. It's a good mic. Yes, it's a mite expensive in comparison to others... so don't go if you can't afford it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. damn that is a lot of money, especially since you can go to a great open mic for only 5 bucks in other places. some people just like to waste their money. if this is a good open mic and you got the money then go for it. if not go to the food stamp open mics and "clam up" like a real comedian who is living on the road.

  23. I have to agree with a lot of the positive input from above posts. Good comics, supportive, no time hogs, everyone pretty much worked together to make a great mic. Host kept things moving smoothly. Other than the one (young) drunk chick in the back of the room who insisted on disturbing every comic by shouting and talking loudly; and left before it was her turn, and the one comic who took it upon himself to berate a few comics and for some reason insult two female GUESTS, calling them c*nts on one occasion, I'd say it was a good night. This may have been a very isolated occurrence though.

  25. This is a $10 mic. You HAVE to buy a drink AND pay 5 bucks to perform for five minutes. It's supportive and the host is great so if you don't mind dropping ten bucks, go for it.

  26. Last time I went, the host didn't show up. When asked, the bartender said the show was still on and made me order a drink. Turns out he had no idea what the situation was.

    Never going back.

  27. Well, if the show still went on what's the problem?
