  1. this was a good mic. nice amount of people & a very diverse crowd which i really liked. a good way to test out your material is in front of men, women, black, white, gay, etc. the host was good, not great but good. and of course as a new comic, i wasnt thrilled on how people look at you funny (without saying any jokes). overall one of the better mics!

  2. This is a very supportive open mic. The folks who show up are asked to stay to give feedback on their fellow comics which is very helpful if you're trying to develope an act. The host is always 100% for the comics that show up. I highly recommend this mic to anybody that has something to say. There is no problem. The house is filled with the folks who signed up and nobody leaves so there is an audience there to watch you and laugh...or not laugh if your joke bombs. But that doesn't matter. The support is there.

  3. Agreed with above. Making all the comics stay the duration keeps the room lively; though sometimes it's good practice to work on your bits in front of 3 loathsome comics shooting hate-stares from their eyes. The supportive atmosphere of this mic does create a comfortable and insular experience. Commenting on other comics and their work was interesting; kind of like a PC heckle. Caveat: Don't get too comfortable at this mic, you may be lead to believe that a joke kills when in reality it sucks; sorry, "would be funny if...".

  4. As advertised, a great open mic. Almost more of a workshop. Very well run and a great bunch of people.

  5. This is a great open mic and I come here often. The hosts are really nice and the other comics give helpful and useful feedback. It's one of my favorite spots. And I love Mona! She a great host and makes you feel at home.

  9. This is a great mic. I've bounced around to numerous mics and I like this most so far.

The comics staying for everyone's set, the choice to receive feedback from your peers and the environment that Clayton Fletcher(and team) create all equate to a supportive and great mic. Check it out.

As for the one negative poster above, Clayton's Friday & Saturday night show's do pay and it's a fun show....finding open mics that pay, either don't exist or are few and far between. Check out to the mic folks.

  10. This has a very supportive crowd, people stick around, and when I was there Ben Rosenfeld hosted it & created a pretty positive environment.

  11. I got up for the first time here last Sunday and it was a really positive experience. Not all my jokes went over that well, but I felt like I got honest feedback and didn't completely bomb. The other comics and Dave, the host, were very supportive. If you're reading this and you're not sure where to get up for the first time, I'd highly recommend this place. As others mentioned, you must sign up on Wednesdays only and you must be there by 5:45pm.

  13. It's a good mic - people working out some funny jokes and some terrible jokes - and if you're any good you wont get any feedback, just death stares, which is totally what I was looking for. It's funnier than a car wreck; as long as the wreck isn't between two clown cars... Check it out, it's worth it...

  14. I generally like this mic, but at times I felt like I was at the Klan open mic. So many racist, hacky jokes, it was sad. Hostile environment for a minority comic tonight. I hope this does not become a trend.

  15. Nah, 'tain't nuthin'... why'nt you come on back, boy and try some of your'n funny stuff ag'in.

  16. Great mic, very very supportive and usually a good turn out. the feedback is optional on the jokes. agreed partially with the comic above the comic above me. As another minority comic I understand, there's one comic who always has an angry persona, and doesnt seem to understand race (and potentially humor) to know racial humor vs just being rascist and angry. Thats his own learning process.

But I think the more minorities that come to mic the more that will change. Overall its a great mic

  17. It's a lousy mic when there are just the usual comics, when you have new comics it's much better. So hit or miss.

  18. This was my first time at this place and I was surprised with the Supportive audience feedback. I will definetely come back to this club and make sure I reserve my spot on Wednesdays only, which is whats required, luckily I got a stand-by spot. But the 5 buck fee for 5 minutes is worth the money. I have been to other clubs in the new brunswick area in jersey for the same 5 bucks you get 3 minutes on stage and no feedback and a big bill at the end, which makes it a turn-off for people like me on a limited budget.

  19. I just did this mic on January 8th and it was really great. The audience had a good energy level, which you don't see all that often at open mics. And there was a fantastic variety of comics, not just the usual cast of young white dudes. The feedback option is a really nice touch, even if nothing you can use in particular comes out of it; still gets you thinking about other ways to look at your material. A+++ WOULD JOKE AGAIN

  20. I've been coming here a lot lately. Sure, you're going to see some hacky shit....one guy atually did a Paula Poundstone joke and when I tried to talk to him about it, let's just say, it didn't go well. You know who you are.

  22. I just got back from this mic. Can I say it's one of the best mics out there? Had tons of fun and all the comics are super supportive and very helpful with their feedback. And Mike is such a cool MC! Not a try hard and a natural!

  25. Clayton runs a well organized and very supportive mic. Comics are required to stay until at least 7:30 for this mic, so there's no pump 'n dump from guys doing spots and bailing without supporting the other comics.

If you have time remaining after your set, Clayton and the other comics in the room will give critiques to help improve your set. Very supportive mic, people pay attention, watch and take notes that will help you out, instead of being buried in their notebooks.

  26. Exploring a few lexical and syntactic punchlines, Victim of my own discretion i presume. Venturing into humor-land, a world filled with colors, shapes and infinite dynamics. 'Then Suddenly' i remembered. A verbal linguistic sword vs compartmentalized limitations.

  28. Worked on a few of Clayton Fletcher Shows, A phenomenal experience.
The ability to encapsulate an audience is a social and psychological study that's mutually exclusive to humor itself. More of an intrinsic dichotomy polarized into contrasting parts.

    Great Open Mic

  29. The audience tells you how you did by reaction. If you shoot your load and have to go so be it. Nice mic but I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay then be held hostage that's like paying somebody to drop a deuce on your face! You want feedback? go to an AA meeting, or hire a shrink. There somethig wrong with a person that hangs around for an opinion! Call your mom, dad, or whoever has neglected you during your absorption years and work it out. you do't need someone's opinion. your already out a few bucks, the least you could do is get out of your own way!
