The night I did Bacchus Bar, it was the room’s second mic only. The mic used to be run by someone else, but for the new producers, Oscar and Amanda, it was their second time hosting. The room is for standup only and takes place upstairs. There are no language restrictions, and stage time depends on the number of signups. But figure at least five to ten. And after the first rotation, if talent wants to go up a second time they can. Signup is first come first choice. Parking is on the street, and you pay till 7pm (or is it 8pm?) The bar is inside a hotel. You see the bar first before seeing the front desk. And an elegant bar it is. Moscow mules run $12. But, again, the mic takes place upstairs in a room that seats about 20. On the same floor in another room they have a pool table which may be in use during the mic. Not necessarily a distraction, unless people playing comment loudly on a shot. There is no stage, but for anyone attending they see the performer well. The room is lit brightly. Two mics are set up for the host to use one of them from the back of the room. Know that both mics are on stands about sixteen inches high. You can hold the stand and walk around or take the mic out. I took the first spot and my friend took the second. The signup sheet came out 7:45pm. Amanda put her name on the third spot and one more comedian wrote their name fourth. She came late, though, during the final minutes of my set. The room started at 8:11pm with seven people in the room. It runs till 10pm. By the time Oscar brought me up from the front of the room, I performed for nine people. In total, we had three signups and both hosts performed. Then Oscar asked if anyone wanted to go up a second time. My friend and I did. We did a few more minutes each, and someone from the audience asked to do a quick bit, which was a surprise, but a pleasant one. We had 12 people in the room at 9:20pm. We left at 9:48pm because we needed to eat dinner, but the room was still going on but wrapping up. Guys, this mic is finding itself. The hosts asked the room what they think they could do to draw more attention to them to get local comedians interested in performing there. They tossed the idea of changing to time the room begins to a later hour, so watch out for that. I personally think if the hotel put the mic on their calendar, more hotel guests might want to see the show. But this mic deserves recognition. For right now, you pretty much get ten to 15 minutes of stage time because this room only gets a few signups. Oscar and Amanda want their room to succeed. They took over the reins of the room because they didn’t want to see it end when the previous host was ready to retire. Help put this room on the map for local comedians.
