  1. The mic at Trace is run by a gentleman named Greg. He has been running this room for two years, and it is for standup only. Parking is on the street. There are no language restrictions, and it’s first come first choice, and talent is very good about being on the honor system. Those performing get four minutes, the light at three from the back of the bar.
The stage is a platform stage and it is located to the immediate left of the bar’s entrance. The bar seats 39. Know that you are competing with six TVs that were on but muted. As elevated at the stage is, people walking in and out of the place don’t block you. The stage is not well lit, but you can still see talent fine. You may be better off not wearing a hat. While the full bar does not serve food, they offer free popcorn.
The signup sheet came out at 8:55pm. Normally, it comes out earlier, but the host had difficulty finding a parking spot, so the bartender brought out the signup sheet. It had 27 slots with four reserved. The room goes to 11pm. Upon the sheet coming out we had seven signups right away and additional signups as the evening went on.
The evening started at 9:10pm, and I counted 15 in the room, including the bartender and host. I took the fourth spot and my friend the fifth. At least two people there were not performing, only wanting to see the mic. While some talent left after their set, new peeps would come in. We had 13 in the room at 9:50pm. It wasn’t long after that that we left the mic ourselves. (We had n hour walk back to hotel and we hadn’t had dinner yet.)
Guys, this is a good room to do. A bit challenging in that you are competing with TVs that were on, but I remember while on stage I saw everyone looking at me. Yes, someone or some ones may come in not knowing there was a mic, just wanting a drink, but that’s an opportunity to win them over, get them to pay attention to you on stage. The comedians certainly support the room by watching the stage, and Greg is quite the pleasant host. This room is not so popular that if you’re not there when the sheet comes out, you can’t get a spot. Talent came in well after the room started and signed up, so you can definitely do an earlier mic before hitting this one.
