  1. On Mondays, Shakers offers two open mics back-to-back: one at 5:30 and one at 8:30. The 5:30 mic is called Strong Style Comedy Open Mic and has been going on two years. It is run by a gentleman named Derek Strong, and signup is on IG the day of the mic @strongcomedy. The list has 20 slots, and talent is asked to buy one drink while there. Parking is on the street. This room is for standup only, and there are no language restrictions. Talent gets four minutes of stage time, the light at three.
There is no stage. A cordless mic, stand and stool are set up to one side of the room, which seats about 46 who can see the performance area well. The business is a full bar, and you can bring outside food in. I ordered a Moscow Mule for $10, a reasonable price. The bar had five TVs, three of which were on but muted; the TVs close to the “stage” are off.
The room started at 5:42pm the evening I was there, and I counted 14 people in attendance when we began, including the bartender. The host welcomed everyone, did a few minutes himself, then brought up the first talent. The evening started out swimmingly. No comedian did not respect the light. People paid attention.
As the night went on, attendance went down a bit, and while some talent were performing, I saw people in the audience talking to each other here and there. Not knowing about the signing up online, and because the host sat in the front row by the mic, I did not feel comfortable approaching the host and asking about going up. I did not want to distract from the comedians performing. Had the host sat in the back of the room, sure, I would have asked him if I could have gone up, and I learned from Derek after the mic that had he known, he would have put me up. I let him know I was visiting from out of state.
The mic that night ended at 7:29pm.
Guys, this is a good room to do. Yes, I mentioned a few people talking, but the room went on for almost two hours: you’re gonna experience that at times. Attendance went down a little, true, but it also came back up as comedians who knew they were booked to go up late in the lineup filtered in. That you can stay for a second mic is quite the time saver. That Derek would have put me up tells me he is accommodating to visiting comedians who don’t know the rules of the mic and didn’t signup online.
