Open mic at Coffee Beer has been going on since December of 2024 and is run by a woman named Alice. It is for standup only. There are no restrictions unless children are present. Signup is first come first choice. Parking is on the street, and it is free. There is no stage. A mic and stand are set up in a corner of the room near the entrance. A stool is placed next to the mic, if you want to put your notes or drink on it. A see-thru curtain is erected to cover the windows that would otherwise be the backdrop. The room seats about 20 who can see the talent. A camera is set up on the other side of the room because all the sets are taped. If you leave your email on the signup sheet, they will send you a copy. The business emphasizes coffee, but they also serve alcohol, too, and offer a limited vegan menu like hot dogs. Beers run $7 a pint. The signup sheet came out 5:37pm. That was early. The gentleman behind the counter said when we arrived that the sheet comes out at 6 and the room starts 6:30pm. (I thought it was 5:30 signup, 6pm start.) The room started at 6:32pm. We had 8 signups and 16 people in the room watching. Alice opened with a few minutes, mentioned her husband who was the videographer, then brought up the first talent. She did not say how many minutes talent gets, but as I timed them I deduced it was five. During the mic, people will come in and cross the stage where talent is performing. Be aware of that. Attendance increased as the mic went on. I counted 22 in the room at 7:27pm. It wasn’t much longer that the room came to a close at 7:40pm. Guys, this is a fine room to do. Five minutes is a good amount of stage time. You can get a copy of your set. Additional signups arrived after the room started, but even with them, the mic lasted only over an hour, so even if you arrive late, you’re going up in plenty good time.
