  1. Brewery 26 has a limited parking lot, but there is plenty of street parking. Going on for 6 months, the room is hosted by Sagan, a woman who works behind the bar and a gentleman named Jamie. The open mic takes place in a giant brewery, which seats over 50. The place obviously serves a plethora of beer, as well as some nonalcoholic drinks. They do not serve food, but you may bring outside food into the brewery. There is no stage; however, the two mics that are set up are easily seen by anyone in the room. Talent gets 4 minutes, and it’s first come first choice. Also, talent gets a dollar off any beer ordered.
Inside the brewery are 2 TVs, one of which was on but mute. The room is for standup only, and it goes till 9pm. Sagan brought out the signup sheet from behind the counter at 6:30, and we signed up second, as one talent was there before we arrived at 6:18pm. There were 20 slots for talent to write their names.
The room began a little late this week, starting at 7:08pm. Both Sagan and Jamie welcomed everyone, bantered back and forth a bit, then made it clear to the room that hate speech will not be tolerated, and the audience is asked not to heckle talent on stage. Conversely, talent should not talk to audience members personally if they don’t want to participate in any way other than watching the show. Jamie gives a cell light at 3, and you have a minute to wrap it up. I counted 26 people when we started.
The evening went swimmingly. Everyone respected the light. The hosts are good about telling you in advance when it’s your turn to go up, and the audience was very good about listening to the performers, laughing and nothing more. Admittedly, the size of the audience thinned some as the evening went on, with 20 peeps by 8:15pm and 15 by 8:45pm. The room ended at 8:49pm.
Guys, this is a good room to do. It’s the kind of room every open mic should be like. Talent was respectful about the honor system, letting those who arrived earliest sign up earliest. No “feeding frenzy”, when everyone charges at the signup sheet at once. The audience was very receptive when they heard something funny. You did not get the sense you were performing for a room of comics simply waiting their turn to perform. Jamie and Sagan and affable hosts, making local talent and visiting talent feel appreciated. Best of all, there is a second room you can do that night, if you want to double dip.
I do recommend performing in the first half of the show, as the audience was more plentiful, but even getting on stage in the second half is not bad. Just make sure you get there in time to make the list, as there’s limited slots.
