I have reviewed The Hidden Door on their Tuesday night, but I decided to review their Sunday mic (a weekend mic) to see if there is much difference. And it’s a good thing I did. The format for signing up has changed. It is no longer first come first choice. Evidently, when the signup sheet came out at 6:30, there is no honor system. People signed themselves up first even if they arrived after other talent showed up to wait for the signup sheet. It’s a feeding frenzy, which I personally hate. But no more. What they do now is this: all talent who show up before 6:30 draw a playing card, up to nine cards. Then, depending on the card you draw, determines when you sign up. For example: I drew the ace, so at 6:30 I got the first choice where I wanted to perform. If I had drawn the deuce, I would have signed up second, taking whatever spot I wanted, and so on. That is the new format to sign up. This started a couple of months ago. Otherwise, the room remains the same. Read the Tuesday review to learn all the facts about this mic. Their Sunday mic may get a higher attendance because it’s the weekend. We had 14 watching when we started at 7pm, and that increased to 25 by 7:40pm and 26 by 8:45pm. We had 17 people in the room when the mic ended at 9:16pm. Because the room mostly attracts musicians, people were playing pool and darts and watching football (muted) while enjoying the music as background entertainment. I will say that when I comedian performs, mostly they’re good about watching, although the pool table was in use during my friend’s set. Guys, I can’t say any more than what I have in the Tuesday review. Read that for more info. Otherwise, you get 15 minutes of stage time, and you’re not playing to a room full of comics waiting their turn. That is good.
