I was fortunate enough to meet the gentleman, Timmy, who ran the room for two years before retiring as host. The night I performed was his last night hosting. The room will continue under a new host, Joseph Knight, but the venue remains the same. Parking is on the streets. Signup is either by email comedyatwoodskys@gmail.com or walk-in. Walk-ins tend to go towards the latter half of the night. The room is mostly comedy, but once in a while they will get a poet. All non-comedic acts go up at end of night. Parking is on the street. Talent gets 5 minutes, the light (Timmy’s cell light) at 4. The room seats about 30. The business is a bar, and they have 3 TVs, 2 of which stayed on during the show. There is no stage. A mic, stand and stool are set up sort of in the center of the room between the bar and the tables, and only if you walk to the bathroom while talent is performing might there be the only distraction. Peeps were good to go to the bathroom between acts. There are no restrictions, except “hate humor”, jokes that belittle people. Timmy arrived 6:48pm, setting up equipment in only a few minutes. There were already 4 pre-signups when we arrived, and 6 walk-in signups by the time we started the room at 7:15pm, and 15 peeps in room, including the host and bartender, Aaron. A couple people were watching sports on the TV behind the bar, but as the evening went on, I saw them turn and watch the talent, going back and forth between sports and comedy. Pints of beer from the tap ran $8. During the course of the evening, I had two beers to support the room. I went up fifth. The room goes till the last talent has gone up, but typically the room does not go past 8:30pm, 9pm latest. The area of performing is well lit. Wherever you sat, you could see the talent just fine. The room was quite receptive and friendly. I got two applause breaks during my set. There were 20 peeps in the room by the time the mic ended at 8:20pm. Guys, this is a very good room to do. Comics will laugh when they hear something funny. Despite the TVs being on, I could tell attendees were there for the show. I met the new host of the room, and based on his stage presence when he performed, this room will maintain its high energy, long after Timmy has departed. I want to say again how fortunate I was to meet the person who ran this room all this time, passing the baton of responsibility to a new comic, who I am confident will rock the room.
