Green Lady is the first cannabis store to open in Olympia, but in addition to offering a veritable potpourri of weed, they also serve coffee, beer, milkshakes and more, even a few edibles that aren’t laced with marijuana like pastries and breakfast sandwiches. Note: beer is only served in bottles and cans and runs $3.25 each. Parking is free in their lot where you can also find a taco food truck. Sara Rose runs the room, and it is for standup only. No poetry or music. There are no language restrictions. Signup is first come first choice. Open mic at Green Lady has been going on a few months, and the room goes from 6pm to 9pm. The stage is quite elevated, and anywhere you sit in the 33 seats the room offers you can see the talent easily. On the stage is a single mic and stand, which some of the talent had trouble with, the mic cutting in and out at times. It was recommended to leave the mic in the stand when performing. The day I performed, Sara was not there. I arrived at 5:40pm, and the staff working behind the food and drink counter made up a signup sheet for me to write my name on. A gentleman named Sam guest emceed that night. The evening purposefully started late. The staff told me often the room does not start on time. At 6:15pm we had four signups. The room actually started at 6:32pm with nine people in the room. Because of the limited signups we were given six to eight minutes, the light at two. Of the nine people in the room I saw six actually paying attention. By 6:52pm we had eight people watching and a couple more signups. Attendance peaked at 7:23pm with nine people there for the show. I was told often the room can attract a general audience, and we did have one person there just to support. In the end we had eight signups. One comic made their debut doing standup at Green Lady, an employee of the business, in fact. I always like it when I see someone doing comedy for the first time. It’s inspiring. The room ended early, about 7:31pm. Guys, I had a good time doing this room. I would have liked to have met Sara, but Sam was a very good emcee, and we talked a lot about standup afterwards. This is the first of two rooms I did on a Thursday, and I found out from Sam he was set to do three rooms that night, which is conceivable, as two of those three rooms you sign up ahead of time, so if you get the right spot, yes, you can do three mics in the Olympia/Tacoma area on a Thursday. That the mic takes place at a pot dispensary, with talent stepping outside to get some incentive, or the audience showing up a bit toasted makes the room all the more susceptible to comedy. If you’re a smoker and you’re visiting from out of state, I recommend making this the place to buy your herbage, then stay for the mic and get that first set in. If you’re not too lit, do another mic or two later that evening.
