  1. This room is called Bob’s Comedy Jive. It has been going on three years and is for standup only. Talent gets four minutes, the light from the host to one side at one minute. There are no language restrictions. The business offers limited parking. Signup is done via FB by messaging them on Tuesday (2 days before mic) at noon. Bob’s makes a post and you just respond to that post with anything that indicates you want to perform. They allow 18 spots.
Contrary to the title, Bob’s has very little to do with coffee. It is a bar that serves beer at $4.50 a pint. To eat, they serve burgers, hot dogs, chili and fries. The mic takes place in a second room, away from the bar. In that room they have a pool table and pinball machine, but no one played either during the mic. I don’t think anyone ever plays during the mic. While there is technically no stage, a single mic is set up on an elevated portion of the business itself, seemingly appearing to look like a stage, and every one in the room pretty much can see the talent. While the venue seats over 50, in the half of the room where the talent performs are the better seats, about 35. The whole bar is atmospheric with paraphernalia all over the walls and ceiling.
The one distraction for the performer is the large TV behind the mic which is used for karaoke. That TV was on, displaying moving lights that resembled a scene out of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The room is produced and run by three persons who alternate hosting the mic each week. The night I was there, a gentleman named Devante (sp?) hosted. The list of comics is posted on FB the day after signups, as well as a hard copy on the wall the day of the mic. Talent knows in plenty good time if they made the cut.
The evening started about 8:34pm with 27 persons in the room. By 9:15pm I counted 31. The evening went smoothly, with talent after talent going up, doing their best, and respecting the light. After the last comic has performed, a featured artist brings the show to a close, doing ten minutes. The whole evening ended about 10:13pm. A tip jar, located on the railing where the mic takes place, allows people to drop money that goes to the featured talent.
Guys, this is a good room to do. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to go up in as much as I was on a flight when signup took place, and it was filled by the time I landed and was able to get on FB. I suggest you set your alarm clock for 12pm on Tuesday, so you know to signup right away.
