  1. Firefly Lounge purports to have the longest running comedy open mic in Bellingham, going on five years. Timmy Riney runs the room. Talent gets four minutes, a red light comes on at three, easily seen. There are no language restrictions. Signup is done by emailing Timmy at therealguffawingham@gmail.com. There are no walk-ins. I ended up not going up, just watching the show.
See, this is why I hit these open mics, to get all the facts, so you don’t have to show up and not go up. Now you know what to do.
The business is a full bar. The bar is separate from where the mic takes place. An elevated stage, which the entire room can see, is located to the immediate right of the entrance of Firefly. Black curtains serve as a backdrop, and the stage is well lit. The room seats about forty. Timmy plays music when talent goes up and gets off stage from the sound system in the back of the room where the red light appears. A guest emcee that night, Randall, hosted the room. After all the signups have gone up, a featured talent ends the night, doing about 30 minutes. Parking is on the street, and it is free.
A band the same night was hired to play before the mic started, having nothing to do with the comedy show. Normally, the mic starts at 9pm, but things ran late, and we did not get the room going till 9:45pm. I counted 25 in the audience when the night began. Comics went up one after the other, the last open micer finishing his set at 10:43pm. The whole evening ended at 11:12pm with maybe 16 to 18 in the room. That’s not bad considering this is a weekday show, running as late as it did.
Guys, this is the comedy room to do. There are quite a number of other mics in Bellingham that welcome all genres of talent, including comedy, but this is the only mic that’s all about standup. I wish Timmy was a little forgiving to visiting talent that didn’t know how the room ran and allocate one or two spots for walk-ins. But it is his room, and he has it set up the way it is for a reason.
But now you know how the room works, so if you’re in Bellingham, be sure to email Timmy and get a spot in his room. It’s a good way to end a manic Monday.
