  1. In as much as this room is in San Francisco, like every other room, parking can be a friggin’ pill. You have street parking that is pretty much full all day long, but at this venue, there is a lot you can park at around the corner. Costs $20 for the day.
Open mic at Club OMG welcomes standup comedy. James runs the room on Tuesday, and it starts at 6pm. I arrived at 5pm when the business opened. The signup sheet came out 5:17pm. It’s first come first choice. There are no language restrictions. Talent gets four minutes, six if you buy a drink. The business is a full bar and it seats 32. All seats can see the elevated stage, which is located in the recesses of the room in a corner where you will see a single mic and stand. The room has been going on for years.
There were 13 in the room, including the bartender, when we started at 6:01. A guest emcee, Charity, opened with a few then brought up the first talent. We had 16 in the room when I went up second. I think everyone attending was a comedian wanting to perform. No general audience. Another comedian who used to live in Los Angeles but moved to San Francisco recognized me and said hi. It was good to see a familiar face. Other talent in the room knew one another, and I suspect this is one of the more popular rooms comedians go to to try out new stuff. There is a second mic at another location later in the evening that talent tries to double dip.
Guys, this is a good room to do. If you’re driving through, yes, parking can be a pain, if not outright expensive. If you’re staying for a couple/few days, use alternate transportation: a cab, a lift, a rented scooter, whatever. There are plenty of close-by hotels you can stay at and walk as well.
As many rooms as there are in San Francisco, I have not known a room that didn’t have parking problems, so don’t be swayed not to do this room because I am emphasizing the parking difficulty. This room deserves more than that. As do others I have recommended. San Francisco has a lot to offer: historically, culturally, and a lot of standup comedy opportunities, both booked and open mic. When you’re in the Bay Area, take advantage of all this city has to offer.
