  1. Open mic at Tippe and Drague is run by a gentleman named Dan. It’s a new venue, going only for four months, the night I performed. A once-a-month venue, this was only their fourth show. Parking is on the street but it’s free. The signup sheet comes out at 8pm. It’s first come first choice, and the room caters only to standup, no other talent. There is no stage. Talent performs to one corner of the room, and for the most part, wherever you sit, you can see the performer. Maybe one or two blind spots. A cordless mic is set up near a TV but that TV is turned off when the show starts. The place seats just over 40, and there are no language restrictions unless children are present (but there are never kids there, I am told.)
We got a bit of a late start. The host did not arrive till 8:08pm, and the sheet came out 8:10pm, brought out by the owner of the business, Robert. I took the third spot. The business serves beer, wine and cider. To eat, it was pretty much salads and handheld foods: burgers, sandwiches, some small plates. The first beer is comped for all talent. There were three other signups by 8:30pm. The room goes till 11pm.
The evening started at 9:10pm. If you don’t want to order food, the business does offer free popcorn. The room was pretty full when we started. About 33 people and five signups total. At the end of the open mic lineup, the room then features two booked talent.
Guys, this is a good room to do. The evening ended at 10:40pm, and the audience came, knowing it was only standup they were going to see. I gotta say, I had a terrific time performing, my opening joke getting monumental laughs. While performing, I knew I was going over the time allotted to me. At one point I stopped my set and said to Dan, “If you gave me the light, I didn’t see it.” I did a little more time then got myself off. I suspect because of the short list of signups, Dan was pretty much going to let the talent alone, though I did see him give the light to comics that followed me.
The audience is primed and pumped for comedy. They want to laugh, and came to support. I recommend being a part of one month’s ensemble of talent. When local comedians discover this new venue, it’s going to be packed with signups, I am certain.
