  1. Studio 216 is located in a strip mall, so parking is very limited. The studio is just that, seating 18 chairs and having a big stage with a mic and stand. They have a nice sound system. Talent gets ten minutes, and there are no language restrictions. Signup is first come first choice, and they are on the Honor System. Six people were outside waiting when the doors opened at 8pm. The studio offers water and soda for $1, but it is a free mic.
All genres of talent are welcome, and the room has been going on since January of 2018. Something of note: this room takes place every other Saturday. That doesn’t mean it’s the second and fourth or the first and third Saturday. It means just what it says: every two Saturdays, even if there are five Saturdays in a month. It just happens every two weeks.
The evening started on time. We had 12 people in the room, not counting the host. Our emcee welcomed everyone but did not open with a few minutes himself. Unfortunately, I must confess, I did not get his name. This room mostly attracts comedians, and tonight was no exception. I went up second, playing to 12 people. By the fourth talent, the host brought a chair up on stage as well. Music was also played between talent, so there was no dead air. After five comics we had a musician who played only one song. Then it was back to standup. That’s how the room was, coming to a close each show at 11pm.
Guys, this is a good room. It’s mostly comedians, yes, but even they were supportive. All chairs face the stage, and there are no distractions in as much as everyone there is for the mic, and they pay attention to others like they want others to respect them when they’re on stage. Ten minutes is a very good amount of stage time for Los Angeles, though Sunland is a bit on the northern extreme end of the greater L.A. area.
