  1. Kimmyz shares a giant parking lot with other businesses, most of them closed at night, so parking is no problem. All genres of talent are welcome, but mostly this room attracts musicians. The last time they had a comedian was a couple years ago. Talent gets three songs or 15 minutes. Comedians and other artists get five to ten minutes. There are no language restrictions. There is walk-in signup, but when I called the business earlier to confirm open mic was happening, the staff there said if I wanted to request a spot, they’d forward that to the host. I said I’d like the third spot, thank you very much.
When I arrived at 7:03pm there were 8 spots taken on the signup sheet, including my third spot. There are 24 spots total. The stage is located immediately to the left of the entrance, and it housed four mics. This is definitely a sports bar; 13 muted TVs were playing various sports games. One pool table had people using it, but at least it was the furthest away as possible. Pints of beer are only $4.50. Wow! The business is a full bar and kitchen. They serve comfort food like salads, sandwiches, burgers and appetizers. But they also offered entrees like ribeye steak and three-cheese chicken dinner. The place seats over 50.
The room is run by a gentleman named J.D. He has been hosting the room for four years. He opened with three songs when we started the show at 7:12pm. Not counting the staff or the host, there were 15 people in the audience, not all of whom were there for the mic. After his performance he brought up the first talent. By 8:30pm, attendance had increased to 24 peeps. When it was my turn I had maybe 20 people to win over, but it was evident some were not paying attention. J.D. was very good about making sure the audience knew I was a comedian and that everyone should pay attention. For the most part, people respected him. And me.
Guys, this is a good room. J.D. knows it’s not easy to do standup, and made a point to bring that up after my set. I actually did well, probably because they hadn’t had standup in so long. And it’s always best to see it live. For that very reason, you should do this room, so they get used to solid standup comedy.
