  1. Rips Ale was one of the more festive rooms I’ve done lately. Open mic has been going on almost six years and is run by a gentleman named Andy. Signup is first come first choice and there are 12 slots. Talent gets 12 minutes, and there are no language restrictions. All genres of talent are welcome, but this room mostly attracts musicians.
Rips Ale has its own parking lot. They have two muted TVs on, and there is a pool table. The room seats over 30, and they have a sizable stage with five mics and a nice sound system. A tip jar stands before the stage. The bar does not sell food, but they do offer bags of chips.
By 4:12pm, Andy was on stage with four other men, playing to an audience of 18. After more than 30 minutes of playing, Andy and his friends took a break, then those on the signup sheet came to action. By 5pm there were still 18 in the audience, four people on stage, the sound guy and the bartender. The four men performing did over 30 minutes, then the second talent went up at 5:32pm. I was up about 5:46pm, playing to twenty plus peeps. I did about 15 minutes. I must say the audience was very receptive. Again, the room was quite festive. The talent after me got the audience dancing. The room was really rocking. By 6:40pm there were 26 people in the room.
Guys, this is a good room to do. This room breathes life! It is life-affirming. People are here to celebrate through music and dance and laughter, and everyone is on board. The amount of stage time alone makes this room worth doing, and the audience is very good about paying attention. I do, however, recommend coming early. When I arrived there were only two spots left, the third and first. Looks like the evening really picks up after the fourth talent, so arrive soon and get a good spot.
