Wednesday Mic at Europub

  1. While open mic at EuroPub is a typical open mic, the business itself is not typical of a pub. First, their music, while upbeat, was not nearly as loud and in your face as other beer establishments. Second, living up to their name, all their beer selection was European. They also offer some wines and non-alcoholic drinks. To eat, they only had frozen pizza, toasted pretzels or German sausage. Come thirsty, nothing more. That’s all I have to say. The room seats over 70, but maybe 25 seats are arranged to face “the stage”, which consisted of a single mic near the one pool table located past the bar near the back of the room. No one under 21 admitted. Parking is on the streets.
The open mic, however, is familiar territory. Called The Landfill and run by a woman named Lucy, who has been doing this room since July of 2017, open mic has been going on at EuroPub for over a year. Signup is first come first choice. As an incentive to come early, the first three signups, no matter what spot they take, get six minutes. Every other signup gets four minutes, and there are 20 available spots a night. Fortunately, I got there very early, and took the second spot, being the second person to sign up. The signup sheet came out 8:30 when Lucy arrived. There are no language restrictions. This room is for comedy only.
I am told most talent arrives after 9pm, because they are coming from another popular venue. Sure enough, by 9:20pm we had 14 signups. The room started just after 9:30pm with Lucy opening with a few minutes before bringing up the first signup. There were 18 people in the room when the evening began. One thing I found out, the stand would not adjust, so you had to hold the mic.
Guys, this is a very good room to do. Lucy rewards comedians who come early with additional stage time, and the talent does watch and support you with laughter if you say something funny. It wasn’t just a room full of bobbing heads. There was plenty of seating. This room can be the second of three venues, so the entire evening will be a profitable one, having done three rooms in one night. Make this room a part of this night’s lineup.
