  1. Roxanne’s has its own parking lot, and if you get there early enough, as we did -- since we decided to come early to eat at Roxanne’s as well -- parking will not be a problem. The room is run by a gentleman named Jay, and he has been running it for just over a year. All genres of talent are welcome, but this room mostly draws musicians. Talent gets six minutes, and there are no language restrictions. Signup is first come first choice, and it is on the Honor System.
The business is a full bar, but they also offer plenty to eat, uniquely found appetizers like pastrami quesadilla or shrimp cocktail, soups and salads, some choices of sandwiches, wraps and burgers, and entrees like strip steak and mahi mahi. They even offer a kids menu. During Happy Hour, beers are a dollar less. Wings during Happy Hour are $1.50 each, so my friend and I ate nine. There are eight TVs, two of which were on by the bar. They have one pool table, but it is separate from the bar. There is no stage. A mic is set up to one corner of the bar, and there are about 36 seats in the whole place that can see the talent well.
We had four signups by 7pm. I took the third spot, my friend the fourth. When we finally started at 7:11pm, we had 15 people in the room. The first talent was a comic. I ended going up second, another standup performer, before the evening shifted, with my friend playing the violin. I got the light at five minutes, but I never saw my friend get the light. She only played one song while also talking about a book she wrote, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she went just a fraction over six minutes. The room goes till 9pm, and they have a featured artist at the end of the evening.
Guys, this is a good room to do. The people there for the mic sit close to the stage and they pay attention. Standup is as well received as music, I felt, even if this room attracts mainly musicians. There aren’t a lot of open mics on a Monday in Long Beach. This room helps to keep this city busy every night with open mic. For the sake of getting up every night, on some Monday, broach this room and do the stage time. It’ll be a different audience than any other room you’ve done, and Happy Hour goes till 7pm, so you’ll definitely have time to enjoy yourself separate before doing stage time.
