  1. Susie’s Bar is a terrific room inside a terrific small town (population under 5,500). Randy runs the room, has been for almost two years. A friendly gentleman who, with his long white hair and beard, reminded me of Sauron from the Lord of the Rings movies. Mostly the room attracts musicians, but all forms of talent are welcome.
Parking is street only but it will not be a problem. Inside, they have five muted TVs and two pool tables. There is no stage. The room seats 41, and that’s downstairs. There are no language restrictions.
I arrived 8:25pm and was the first talent there. The evening only began at 9:12pm. There was no introduction, no welcoming people out. Randy and three other musicians just started playing cover songs. The one TV over the “stage” is turned off before the show begins. I didn’t see any other signups when I put my name down, except for the first spot. By 9:15pm I still was the only other talent on the list.
After two songs Randy welcomed people and talked about the open mic. About 18 people composed the audience, not counting the bartender or the four band members. There is a tip jar at the front of the stage. People were playing pool during the band’s opening and were still playing pool when Randy brought me up. Thankfully, they were polite enough to stop playing once they knew I was doing standup and listened. I even won them over, generating some laughs from them as I did my set. The rest of the room was on point as well. I think they were glad just to have some standup, though Randy and the other musicians were very good. These people came out for him, not expecting comedy.
Guys, this was a very supportive room. Also, there is no specific stage time. If the room does not have many signups, talent can be up there for 15 minutes or more. I did ten minutes but could have gone longer.
Suggestion: while they did not serve food, bags of chips are offered. But as late as the room begins, come having already eaten.
