  1. Redball’s is a venue not accustomed to comedy. While they allow are forms of talent, mostly they are known for music and very little else. Talent gets 15 minutes, and the signup sheet came out at 6:30pm.
The business is a full bar, but they also serve pizza – obviously – sandwiches, pasta and salads. The venue goes from 7pm to 9:30pm and only 10 spots are given per show. Jeremy runs the room and has been doing it for 5 weeks as of 10-20-16, even though the room has been going on for 3 years. There are no language restrictions unless children are present. The room seats almost 50, and the business has its own parking lot.
The evening started later than usual: 7:30pm. I originally had the second slot but was asked to go first because a band that was slated to go first had some equipment issues. In the audience I’d say there were about 32. I did about 10 minutes then got myself off. A friend followed me, and sure enough, we were the only two comedians. Everyone else for the remainder of the night was a singer or musician. As the evening progressed, the room thinned like a receding hairline. We left about 8:45pm. Attendance was maybe half minus one or two.
This was a great room, I must say. And I think the earlier in the evening you go, the bigger audience you will have. By the end of the first music act, already attendance started to dwindle. But what audience there was, they were all on board. Jeremy wasn’t used to comedy. Initially, the sound was too low for someone talking into the mic. During my set he played with the system, which was kind of distracting. Still, the audience was with me the whole time. Very much appreciated that.
Give this room a go. The food was good. You can order pizza by the slice. And 15 minutes is a hefty slice of time, too. The audience was very attentive, and as diverse an audience as you could ask for: children, parents, singles, couples, young and old. Yes, Moorpark is somewhat on the outskirts of the Los Angeles area, but on a return trip from somewhere, or as you’re passing through, stop in and do this room. It’s worth it.
