  1. Poet and Patriot has a very small parking lot. You would do better with street parking. The bar serves beer and wine, and purchases are cash only. Now the facts.
This venue is comedy only. Talent gets five minutes. There are no language restrictions. Also, there is no stage. A single mic is set up to one corner. It’s first come first signed up; the signup sheet came out 7:30pm. I was the only one in the room when the sheet came out. There is one muted TV by the bar, but it is not a distraction. The place offers free pretzels to eat.
Sam, a comedian himself, runs the room, has been doing so for over two and a half years. The room can get anywhere from 15 to 20 general audience members usually. Eight to 25 comedians can sign up. The room goes till 10 or 10:30pm, and normally starts at 8:30. The night I went up we started the evening at 8:43pm. We started late because audience came late. Not a lot of people by 8:30. There were 13 in the room including the host and bartender.
Sam offered me eight minutes. Not a lot of talent had shown up, and Sam knew I was from out of town. By 9:20pm, there were 22 people in the room. I took the fourth spot but went up second. The room seats about 29 who can see the stage. Other chairs by the bar and elsewhere are available but not visible to the performer.
Guys, this is a good room. I appreciate Sam and what he does. The room was filled with regulars, but any new talent was just as well received. My recommendation, though, is to have come having already eaten, especially if you’re not going up till the end.
