  1. Open mic at Lush Lounge is one of the most lax rooms one can do. The signup sheet came out at 6pm, and the room goes from 6 to 10:30pm with 9 half-hour slots. There is no host. The gentleman, Jesse, who worked behind the counter, was the one who told me how everything works here. He also set the mic up before I arrived.
The place seats about 36 who can see the stage, which is a mic on the floor (no platform or any elevation) to one side of the room. Signup is first come first choice. Keep the language clean. Again, very informal. People go up as they please. I was the only one there to signup when the sheet came out at 6pm.
I went up at 6:25pm. I performed about 10 minutes to about 7 or 8 people. Jesse was working the counter, couldn’t really stop what he was doing and watch, but I could hear him laughing. While a small audience, some were on board, paying attention throughout my set. It was fine. They acknowledged jokes that they liked, which was nice. In all that time, not one other person showed up to sign up.
The place itself serves sandwiches, wraps and salads. To drink: coffee, tea and blended smoothies. There is a parking lot next door or street parking. Not a problem.
Open mic has been going on for 3 and a half years. Jesse has been there a month and a half. He told me there are times when this place can be packed. Tonight was not one of them. There are no TVs, but you are competing with the noise from behind the counter, as some coffees and all smoothies are blended.
Guys, this room is a good one to do. But I strongly encourage you to do two things before coming here. Actually three. First, come later in the evening to perform. You’ll likely have a bigger audience. Second, come with an arsenal of material to do. 30 minutes! That’s headlining time at some professional venues. Bring your tried and true material. Mix in some new jokes. But give a performance like it’s a paid gig and gauge the audience how well the set goes. Lastly, tape it. No, you’ll probably not be able to post it anywhere. Too much noise. But if you’ve got that much time on stage, take advantage and put together your longest set ever and see what happens.
    Just a recommendation.
