  1. Parking at SLG is street only, but it’s free. The venue is one giant room with an enormous stage that held five mics and a piano. The place seats over 45 comfortably, and to one corner you may buy beer and wine. Signup is first-come-first-choice, and people were very good about the honor system, that when the signup sheet came out, whoever was there first got to sign up first, rather than a feeding frenzy where all the talent scrambles to get a spot and F the next talent, even if they were there sooner than you. I friggin’ hate rooms that are run like that.
Anyway, because of when I got there I drew the 7th slot. The first 20 people to sign up are guaranteed a spot. We started the night at 6:34pm. Scribe was the host. Talent gets 10 minutes on stage, regardless of what your specialty is. There are no language restrictions, and there were about 45 people attending by the time the show started. The venue has been running for about a year and a half.
I think this was a noteworthy room, one worth performing at. Because they are a once-a-month venue, the turnout is high each month. If you bring a camera, you may very well get a great taping out of it. The energy from the audience was high. Yeah, a couple people were talking among themselves, but mostly everyone paid attention to talent when they were performing.
They get mostly musicians at SLG, but there were plenty of comedians there as well. Also, open mic at SLG starts relatively early, so you can definitely squeeze in a second set the same night at another location. I have only good things to say about SLG. Maybe come having already eaten dinner, since they serve no food, and if you plan to drink. . . . Otherwise, enjoy the talent and be enjoyed, because the audience is very supportive.
I wish I had taped my set.
