  1. The Art Bistro is the newest open mic I have ever reviewed. It started as a 3rd Tuesday of the month open mic, but switched to every week starting the Tuesday I performed, their third performance only.
Amy runs the open mic and the bistro. The show goes from 6 to 8pm. Talent gets 15 minutes, and she allows up to ten signups. This is a family-friendly room, so watch the language if children are present. If there are no kids, let the expletives trumpet. Parking is no problem. You can go to their website and signup or call ahead of time and reserve a spot; otherwise signup starts 5:30pm.
The bistro itself serves beer and wine, soft drinks, coffee & tea. To eat you have sandwiches, pizza and salads. I had the pesto pizza. Very good. They have Happy Hour till 6pm, but after 6pm, while Happy Hour is over, you can still get 10% off up to 8pm. The part of the room that can see the open mic seats about 30, but more tables and chairs can be brought over to accommodate higher numbers. The bistro also offers crafts, specifically painting, to entertain the kids, but they have crafts more difficult to challenge the creative adult as well.
Guys, this room is difficult to gauge. The history of this place is brief. On their opening 20 people showed up. On their second show they had a poet/rapper perform. Save for that, all other talent did karaoke. There were 6 in attendance. On their third night, I was the only “guest” talent. We didn’t start the night till almost 7pm, because we were waiting for other talent to show up. I ended up performing for 3 people, only going up after Amy and her two staff – the hostess and the cook -- did karaoke. So, here I go, doing my set for 3 people, two women and a young man, and I had a great time. I got these three people to laugh. Repeatedly. Even an applause break. It was so great. Then they did more karaoke till I joined in with my rendition of Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”
I hope this posting gets the attention of comedians in the Sacramento area and any visiting comedian. This room deserves a chance. And 15 minutes is a hefty chunk of time on stage. I hope this room gets the attention of any artist in the Sac area. For musicians, that can be 3, even 4, songs. And if you’re nervous, again, beer and wine are served. And what I ate, I thought was good.
Certainly, it felt good the next morning.
    Reflecting on the night before.
