  1. Sacred Grounds is all about coffee and tea and pastries on display. There is no alcohol served. The place seats about 37 comfortably, and parking is street only. The stage is a one-foot platform, in a good space for everyone to see. There were about 25 in attendance at its peak. I showed up just after 7pm. There was only 1 other signup. A gentleman names Basil hosted the room that night, but I think it’s run by a gentleman named Tommy Twing, and he’s been running it for a year. There are no restrictions except when children are present. You get 3 songs or 15 to 20 minutes, and it goes from 7pm to 10pm.
It was a slow night that night. The emcee opened with a couple songs. The only other signup was also a musician and did a few numbers, then I was asked to go up followed by my friend who also did standup. While attendance of onlookers was surprisingly high, performers were scarce. All the more reason why I did well on stage, I think. People came to see a full show, so what talent they could see in a small lineup they were grateful for.
My friend also did well after my set. We stayed to support what talent scuttled in as the evening progressed, but I was thinking as a comedian to do 15 to 20 minutes, that’s “featured” stage time. This room would be great to practice in when you have a booked gig with that much time on stage allotted.
When we went to pay for our drinks the staff person offered to comp them. He thoroughly enjoyed our acts, he said. I answered thank you, no, that one of the reasons why businesses have open mic is to solicit more customers, so I insisted on paying. He gave me a discounted price, which I offset with a large tip. Truthfully, I only cared that he liked my set. Being offered a comped beverage was validation enough. Do this room, my fellow comedians, when you are ready for a 15 plus minute set and you‘re not using notes. If you show up on a night that I’ts not packed with talent, you will have a good test of your act with this audience. They’re happy to have comedy there, and they’ll certainly let you know if they enjoyed you or not.

  2. This mic is a piece of shit. Filled with homeless trash. It’s not worth your time. The host did 40 min of shitty guitar playing, then the next guy did at least four songs. I say at least because I left after that. I feel dumb for holding out that long. Don’t go.
