Open Mic at Trip is run by a young man named Jason, who, on the day I performed, had only been running the venue for a few weeks, while the venue itself has been going on several years. Signup is 1:30 and it's first come first choice. Parking is on the street. Trip is a full bar that serves hot dogs, sliders and street tacos. They have a pool table and a couple TVs on but without sound. The stage is nice. Spacious, well lit, visible to all the room. Mostly musicians play this room and usually at the beginning, though more comedians are coming in the afternoon and performing. I didn't show up till closer to 4:45pm, 13th on the signup sheet. The musicians had gone home. I was playing to an audience of 9, including the bartender and a comedian/friend who came with me. Talent gets 3 songs or 15 minutes, but I was on for maybe 10. While my act is mostly clean, there are no language restrictions when performing, but you have to be 21 to be inside. I'm sure if I had come earlier the audience would have been bigger. What is great about the room is the window of opportunity to perform, four hours on a Saturday afternoon. On the Saturday I wanted to perform I wasn't free till over halfway through the show, and there was still plenty of time. That Trip goes till 6pm, any comedian wherever they're coming from in the crazy traffic that is Los Angeles, are going to get to perform at this venue. And 15 minutes is a hefty portion of stage time. But try to come in the first half of the room's time slot; the audience will be bigger.
