Rebecca’s is one, giant room, so wherever you sit you’re going to have a view of the stage, which, by the way, is quite sizeable. Two mics stand sentinel. Charlie runs the room and has been doing so for 7 years. If he plays an instrument, or is a comedian himself, I never learned. When the show began, he just started with the first signup, introducing him and then operating the sound system. Talent gets 10 minutes. Signup is first come first choice. By 6:45pm there were 8 signups. This is a clean room; no foul language. Turnout was decent. Fifteen people in the room when we started, and twenty people in the room by the time I went up at 7:30pm. The coffeehouse serves just that, but also tea and other hot drinks as well as a list of cold drinks. There are no TVs in the place, but the noise coming from behind the counter can be distracting. Overall, the business seats about 57. Parking is on the street. Guys, I think this room is predominantly music, even though all genres of talent are welcome. Two comedians went up in the second and third slot and then bolted to another venue. A musician went up after them and then it was my turn. A friend who went with me went up after me, but after that I think everything was music. It was my first time here, and I learned the two comedians before me had been there before. But I don’t get the feeling this is a place patronized by comics, which I find strange. It happens early enough in the evening that you can make it to a second venue, which I did. Ten minutes on stage is a healthy body of time. The audience was quite receptive. And if that’s not enough, they comp talent one drink! How sweet is that? If you are able to be in San Diego on a Tuesday, do this room. There is no reason to miss it. Unless you like missed opportunities.
