Open mic at The Karman Bar is relatively new, only 7 months old. It starts at 7pm and goes till 10. Talent gets 10 to 15 minutes. There are no language restrictions. There are two mics on a platform stage, nice size. Parking is easy because they have a lot. The place is a full bar but no blender. They do offer bags of chips. Down the road I am told they are having the backroom made into a kitchen. There are two pool tables and 4 muted TVs on. Karman Bar seats more than 32 but only about 32 seats have a good view of the stage. The gentleman who runs the room is Steve, though he himself does not do either standup or music. He works for Karman Bar sometimes, and just wants to host an open mic there. Thank you, Steve, for that. When I performed, there weren’t a lot of people there. Less than 10. Steve and the bartender and most of the civilians paid attention, and it was nice to hear the occasional out loud laugh. Signup is first come first choice, but in as much as there were only 4 performers signed up, it didn’t matter how late you arrived, you were gonna get a good spot. I see the potential in this room. They’re still new, but the two musicians who performed were repeat players, so already this place has regulars. Soon, I imagine, a following. When they bring in the kitchen, and people will start spending time here, not just dropping in for a drink, once word gets around of this place, business is going to pick up and their open mic is going to be a happening place in Laguna Niguel. Steve has that kind of friendly presence that people will gravitate towards. I wouldn’t mind checking in on mind a year from now, see how far along his room has come.
