Ziing's was the first of two venues I had planned to do the night I went up. Run by a young man, Anthony, a musician himself, this open mic has been going on for two years. The restaurant itself serves Asian food. There is a full bar and a very large parking lot in the back, shared with other businesses. I felt as if I was in a sports bar. Ten televisions were on showing sports. Thankfully, they are muted. The open mic takes place on a 6 inch platform. There are two mics and plenty of room to fit a number of musicians, if need be. Sure enough, this venue attracts more musicians than any other talent. Anthony informed me he gets comedy sometimes, but not much. Talent gets 10 minutes on stage, and after 9pm there are no language restrictions. Well, I went up first after Anthony opened with a couple songs. There were about 25 people in attendance, 8 or 9 children in the mix. My act is clean enough that the kids did not throw me off. In fact, they were the ones who laughed the most. The adults were pretty good with their joviality, but it was the kids who produced the most cackles. At 9 minutes, Anthony lit me, and I wrapped it up. Guys, this room is one to do. More so, because you have time to make it to a second venue not far away. The audience paid attention, even those sitting at the bar some distance away. If you're not a clean comedian, again, after 9pm, no restrictions. And you can still make the other venue. You'll just go up towards the end.
